"Crossing a Stream in the Highlands" featuring children and their dog wading through a mountain stream was painted by the British artist, Edward Holmes, in 1880. Holmes was born in 1841, the brother of renowned Victorian genre painter, George Augustus Holmes. Known for his landscape, marine and portrait paintings, Edward Holmes became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1889. He exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; Grosvenor Gallery; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Manchester City Art Gallery; Royal Academy and Royal Society of British Artists.
