About the Item

This original oil painting, titled Autumn Harvest by Edward Marecak (1919-1993), was created in 1987. It features a stunning autumnal landscape, with seven women actively engaged in harvest preparations in the foreground. The vibrant colors and rich textures of the scene reflect Marecak's unique style, blending realism with abstract elements. Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner, the painting is presented in a custom frame, with overall dimensions of 20 x 29 x 1 ⅜ inches. The image size itself measures 19 x 28 inches. Dominant hues of yellow, green, and red enhance the warm, seasonal atmosphere. Provenance: Estate of the Artist, Edward Marecak About the Artist: Edward Marecak (1919-1993) Edward Marecak was born to immigrant parents from Slovakia in 1919 and later moved to the U.S., settling in Cleveland, Ohio. His childhood was deeply influenced by Slovakian folk tales, which played a significant role in shaping his artistic voice. Marecak pursued formal art training at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cranbrook Academy of Art before serving in World War II. After the war, he studied at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and eventually settled in Santa Cruz, California, where he became a highly respected painter and educator. Throughout his career, Marecak was known for his dramatic use of color and intricate execution, often drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, Slavic folklore, and the landscape of Northern California. His works were distinguished by their complexity and symbolism, often blending mythological figures with modern settings. Marecak's artistic range included oil, acrylic, watercolor, and casein, and he also created stained glass designs and textiles in collaboration with his wife, Donna Fortin, a skilled ceramist. Marecak’s work, though less frequently exhibited later in life, is held in prominent museum collections such as the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, Denver Art Museum, and Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art.
