Born in 1862 to Pehr Jonsson and Anna Genberg, he left an indelible mark on the art world through his magnificent creations. Genberg's life was colored with a passion for exploration, study, and artistic expression.
His artistic journey began with studies at the Tekniska skolan in Stockholm from 1882 to 1884, during which he also honed his skills at Oscar Törnås' private painting school. He furthered his education under the tutelage of Per Daniel Holm at the prestigious Konstakademien from 1884 to 1889. During these years, Genberg's exceptional talent was recognized with numerous scholarships and medals.
Our painting, dated 1889, transports us to a captivating scene just some minutes after sunset. The canvas is imbued with a beautiful golden glow as the sun's last rays kiss the sky. Amidst a serene lake, the heavenly light reflects, painting the water's surface with mesmerizing shades of purple. In the distance, the landscape is dominated by a mountainous forest, while in the foreground, a stretch of land adorned with bushes creates a sense of depth. The impressionist style comes alive through Genberg's swift brushstrokes, reminiscent of the masterful techniques employed by Rembrandt, with branches delicately etched using the opposite end of the brush.
Genberg's fame as a landscape artist was solidified through his enchanting depictions of snow-laden landscapes from Norrland, particularly the majestic "fjällen" (mountains). His art also captured the allure of Stockholm, Dalarna, and his birthplace in Jämtland. Notably, his masterpiece "Vinterafton" earned him a place of honor at the esteemed Nationalmuseum.
Beyond his creative pursuits, Anton Genberg was actively involved in the art community. He served as the vice-chairman of the Svenska konstnärernas förening from 1913 to 1918 and held a position on the board of Sveriges allmänna konstförening from 1906 to 1939. His exceptional contributions were recognized when he was elected as a member of the Konstakademien in 1922.

John Mundell was a British painter of landscapes as well as river scenes and coastal views. It is suggested that Mundell was a pseudonym of John James Wilson. Mundell’s work was vigorous, bright, and attractive and compares favorably with the work of many of the better artists of his time.
This is a very fine example of the artist's work. It is a rare composition for the artist as he mostly painted marines.

The Impressionist Frank Myers Boggs spent his formative and mature years abroad and in 1923 became a naturalized French citizen. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, but moved as a young boy to New York, where his father was a newspaper executive. The artist began his career at the age of seventeen as a wood engraver for Harper’s, preparing illustrations for Harper’s Weekly and for an American edition of the works of Charles Dickens. It has also been stated that he studied with the portraitist John Barnard Whittaker (1836–1926).
After working at Niblo’s Garden in New York with a scene painter named Vauglin, Boggs went to Paris to study scene painting. On his arrival there in 1876, he was unable to find anyone to instruct him in this field and instead entered the École des Beaux-Arts. Realizing that Boggs was not well suited to painting figurative subjects, his teacher Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824–1904) advised him to try some outdoor landscapes. In 1876 Cameron won a Gold Medal for landscape painting, at the Crystal Palace exhibition. The year after this painting (circa 1870s) Cameron began exhibiting in the Royal Academy, Society of British Artists, and Royal Scottish Academy, showing his work consistently from 1880. Other venues for exhibiting his work include the Glasgow Institute, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery, and the Royal Hibernian Academy. His work is sold today in Fine Art Galleries in the UK and in Saltire Gallerie, USA. His landscape paintings are widely acclaimed, and this landscape painting of considerable size and detail is a fine example. Born in Perthshire, Cameron studied in Dundee and in South Kensington, London. He later died in Edinburgh. The highest auction sale of his work reached nearly 20,000 GBP. He was widely acclaimed as a landscape artist, painting Scottish farmlands and haystacks, coastal scenes and lochs.

William Thornley was a painter of coastal scenes whose work is very similar to Hubert and Charles Thornley, who may have been members of the same family. He painted scenes of genre, architecture, and landscapes as well. A number of the landscapes were of Belgium, Holland, Italy, and Norway. However, it is for his seascapes that he is best remembered.
Thornley’s works are beautifully detailed and show a masterful understanding of the moods of both weather and sea. They are often small in size and put together with fine detail and great artistic merit. Thornley’s fishing scenes are spirited and similar in style to those of “Jock” Wilson, and are often painted in pairs. Thornley’s works have always been popular when they appear on the art market.
He was believed to have first exhibited marines at the Royal Academy in 1859 from an address in Paddington, London and also at the British Institution from 1861 until it closed in 1867. He continued to exhibit at the Royal Academy until 1898.
Thornley also exhibited at the Paris Salon and the Salon of French Artists, receiving an honorable mention in 1881 and a third-place medal in 1888.
