Artist's Statement:
"While driving south on the 5 Freeway, I spotted this classic 1965 Falcon Futura convertible and had to follow it for a while. The design was beautiful -- sleek and moderne with personality and character. The light blue color blended into the perfect southern California sky. The driver appeared to be content just cruising the 5 overlooking downtown San Diego. He seemed alone in his thoughts - as if he had the world all to himself. I thought to myself, 'perhaps he is reminiscing his youth.'"

Tony Peters
Tony Peters was born 1976 in Worthington, Minnesota. He immerses himself in the rich environs of southern California’s urban landscape. He explores city neighborhoods with artistic passion, searching for their heart and personality, and uses as backdrops the streets, train yards, river beds, and freeways of southern California. At an early age, Peters was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. While a student, he worked at the renowned Mendenhall Gallery. Since graduating, he has had a prolific career as an artist, with more than twenty gallery shows, feature articles in national magazines, and private commissions. His first love remains the urban landscape of southern California, where he continues to be inspired by the inner character and energy of the city. He is one of a new breed of young artists reflecting the urban life with contemporary stylings and artistic techniques.
His vision is inimitably his own with a perfectionist’s attention to light, shadow, color, composition, and detail. Peters’ exacting style reflects the influences of artistic icons such as Edward Hopper as well as those with whom he worked closely at the Mendenhall Gallery including Richard Bunkall, Ray Turner, and Mark Ryden. His subtly implied storylines are an enriching psychological drama of urban life.
An Artist Member of the California Art Club, Peters won the “Urban Landscape Award” at the CAC’s 98th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition which took place at the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

Night Burger; Genre painting of a fast food worker looking out to a quiet beach
By Tony Peters
Located in Pasadena, CA
Artist Statement:
"Over a decade ago, before this Fatburger location in Sherman Oaks was renovated, I was admiring the evening neon light bouncing off of these chrome stools. I had even started to paint the entire parking lot full of cars across the street, but decided that the mood of the piece would be enhanced if I changed it to a seaside location, making this piece more of a fiction. Story often draws me into a painting, and I felt the exaggerated aloneness was more connected to the feelings of inspiration I found in this place."
-- Tony Peters
Artwork Description:
Night Burger by Tony Peters is a breathtaking oil on canvas painting that captures a considered and tranquil atmosphere with striking detail. This oil on canvas piece depicts a solitary fast food worker, standing alone inside an illuminated burger stand and gazing out into the night sky towards a distant beach with crashing waves. The painting's warm and vibrant colors bring to life the peaceful and serene mood of the scene.
The figure in the painting wears an orange uniform and grey cap, with no customers present, creating a sense of solitude and introspection. The neon lights that illuminate the burger stand enhance the painting's warm and calming ambiance, reflecting the worker's silent reflection. The harmony between the worker's outfit and the neon lights creates a subtle yet cohesive effect, adding to the painting's overall beauty.
Night Burger by Tony Peters inspires rumination and contemplation. Its minimalist presentation adds a contemporary touch to the piece, making it a perfect addition to any modern or traditional setting. This painting captures the beauty of the mundane and celebrates the peace that can be found in solitude.

Nineteenth Century Winter Landscape in Pennsylvania by Thomas Birch

Winter Landscape, Pennsylvania
Oil on canvas, 18 x 24 inches
FRAMED: 27 x 33 inches (approx.)
Thomas Birch was born in Warwickshire, England, son of the enamel and miniature painter William Russell Birch (1755-1834). He and his father settled in Philadelphia in 1794 and produced popular sets of engravings that documented the city's growth such as The City of Philadelphia (1800) and Country Seats (1808). Thomas Birch began to paint portraits around 1806, and soon gravitated to the subjects that made him famous, landscapes, winter scenes, and marine scenes.
Birch also painted numerous winter scenes throughout his career, perhaps influenced by the popularity of sleighing and skating in Philadelphia. His landscapes represented the more rustic tradition of English painting and although the subject matter was either the Pennsylvania of New Jersey countryside, Birch’s imagination was oriented toward seventeenth century Dutch painting as he was influenced by artists Jan van Goyen and Salomon van Ruysdael.
Birch frequently exhibited his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Artists’ Fund Society, formed in 1835. His art was influential in the later development of the Hudson River School of painting and the style of romantic realism...
