Impressionist Still-life Paintings

IMPRESSIONIST STYLE

Emerging in 19th-century France, Impressionist art embraced loose brushwork and plein-air painting to respond to the movement of daily life. Although the pioneers of the Impressionist movement — Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir — are now household names, their work was a radical break with an art scene led and shaped by academic traditions for around two centuries. These academies had oversight of a curriculum that emphasized formal drawing, painting and sculpting techniques and historical themes.

The French Impressionists were influenced by a group of artists known as the Barbizon School, who painted what they witnessed in nature. The rejection of pieces by these artists and the later Impressionists from the salons culminated in a watershed 1874 exhibition in Paris that was staged outside of the juried systems. After a work of Monet’s was derided by a critic as an unfinished “impression,” the term was taken as a celebration of their shared interest in capturing fleeting moments as subject matter, whether the shifting weather on rural landscapes or the frenzy of an urban crowd. Rather than the exacting realism of the academic tradition, Impressionist paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings represented how an artist saw a world in motion.

Many Impressionist painters were inspired by the perspectives in imported Japanese prints alongside these shifts in European painting — Édouard Manet drew on ukiyo-e woodblock prints and depicted Japanese design in his Portrait of Émile Zola, for example. American artists such as Mary Cassatt and William Merritt Chase, who studied abroad, were impacted by the work of the French artists, and by the late 19th century American Impressionism had its own distinct aesthetics with painters responding to the rapid modernization of cities through quickly created works that were vivid with color and light.

Located in Loveland, CO
White Cat and Morning Glories by Lu Haskew Watercolor Painting 24x18" image size 30x25" framed (behind glass) Shipping price includes the custom packing necessary for safe transport of fine art. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Lu Haskew 1921-2009 "Life is good to me. Being able to go to my studio five days weekly and paint for several hours, living in a supportive community, having family and friends who encourage me--all have contributed to helping me become an artist. Being fortunate to study with some of the artists I admire has kept me painting from the garden, people and my favorite things. With the support of galleries, teaching and doing demos, how could I do anything else? My goal is to try to be the best I can be by always being a student, looking for new ideas and stretching my horizons." Upon retirement from a 33-year teaching career, Lu rented a studio in Loveland and began concentrating on her oil and watercolor painting. Learning from artists she had followed and admired throughout the years her painting became a full time career that lasted 17-years. Beginning in 1992, she studied with renowned painters Richard Schmid, Clyde Aspevig, Joyce Pike...

Working until the year before his death at age 89, he painted landscapes, still life, and portraits in a style that others, but not he, labelled Impressionist. At age 10, he saw his first professional art work at the Trans-Mississippi Exposition in Omaha, and this exposure set the direction of his life. A year later, he returned with his parents to Germany from where his family had emigrated, and in 1907, he enrolled for seven years of study at the Dusseldorf Academy, known for its instruction in genre and history painting. However, Impressionist Adolf Munzer...

Still Life with Melons
Located in Surfside, FL
Genre: Impressionist Subject: Still Life Medium: Oil Surface: Canvas Dimensions: 15.25" x 24" Frederick B. Serger (given name Frederick Bedrick Sinaberger) was born in 1889 to a family of Jewish manufacturers in the village of Ivancice near Brno Moravia, a province of Czechoslovakia. Showing artistic talent at a young age, he attended art schools in Brno, Vienna, and Munich. During World War I, Serger joined the Austrian Army and served in the Balkans. Once his service ended, he traveled to Paris where he resumed his art training and eagerly joined the Ecole de Paris (School of Paris) artists’ movement. During this period, he was greatly influenced by the Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Expressionist movements. While living in Paris, he met and married Helen Spitzer. Serger and his young wife moved from Paris to Scoczow, a city on the Polish-Czech border. They remained in Scoczow for 12 years and he continued to work as an artist, exhibiting in museums in Cracow and Warsaw. He also showed at the Paris Salon de Tuilleries and the Salon d’Automne with exhibitions protesting the French Academy’s Salon system. A high point in Serger’s career was an exhibition at the famed Bernheim-Jeune in Paris. The Bernheim-Jeune was known for displaying the artwork of premier artists such as Pablo Picasso and Paul Cezanne. Finally, in 1937, the City of Paris Museum purchased one of his paintings to be part of their collection. During the onset of World War II, the Sergers moved several times, possibly in reaction to widespread Anti-Semitism during this period. They lived briefly in England, Panama, Guatemala, and Mexico. Finally, in 1941, they established permanent residence in Manhattan, New York. Serger set up a studio along 57th Street in Manhattan. Once again, he began painting prolifically and exhibiting his artwork in such prestigious galleries as Schoneman, Van Diemen-Lilienfeld and John Heller...

Dear clients, Thank you so much for your interest to the art of Maestro Marina Dobrovolskaya. The artist Marina Dobrovolskaya has escaped the war in Ukraine and she is safe with her family in Bulgaria, in the historic city of Bansko, where she continues to create her incredible ART. Unfortunately, she had to leave all her artworks and her native town Kharkiv in Ukraine. We wish you well and in the meantime we hope you will enjoy our artworks in a digital way! Kindly yours, Snow Pearl art gallery Milko Pamouktchiev Owner "Plum Mood" is a painting by Maestro Marina Dobrovolskaya About the artwork: TECHNIQUE: oil painting STYLE: Still Life, Contemporary Edition : Unique, signed Weight: Approximately 2 kg. The painting is unframed. Frame: Optional Snow Pearl gallery offers the possibility to increase the value of this artwork by adding a gorgeous wooden Italian contemporary frame on your choice. We can also offer a restored ancient golden frame. The frame can be hand-carved with composition ornamentation and hand-applied, with water gilded with 22 Kt. genuine gold leaf over rouge burnishing bole and then patinated to the appropriate patina. This will slightly increase the price, the shipping cost and the delivery time. Her paintings bring emotion of happiness, love, energy and beauty represented by the vast creative power of her talent.” Maestro Dobrovolskaya Marina Evgenievna was born in 1986, in Kharkov. In 2009, she graduated from the GS faculty of the Kharkov National Academy of Municipal Economy with a degree in architecture. Member of the Kharkov Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (graphics section) since 2018. She took part in course for design and decoration. She practices techniques of decoupage, craquelure, painting on glass, modeling of polymer clay, drawing up fabric and floristic panels, felting. She is master in technique of sand animation. It works both in online animation and in the creation of original paintings made with sand on glass. She took part with sand animation in the annual charity evening held in London. In 2013, she took part in a drawing course at the Family Art Club Family Development Center, in 2014 she worked in a ceramic workshop (Kiev). The peculiarity of the artist is in her individual manner of execution: Maestro Dobrovolskaya works with mixed technique of watercolors and pastels, which gives the work a feeling of hyper-realism. Portraits occupy a special place in her work, in which great attention is paid to detailing in order to convey the character of a person. In the technique of pencil graphics, as well as mixed (pencil with a liner), the artist depicts the city landscape - one of her favorite subjects, which is due to her training at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, under the guidance of remarkable teachers: N.I. Krivoruchko, V.P. Manokhin, V.A. Kodina, L.O. Bogdanova and others. List of exhibitions: 2016 -2017 Allukrainian artist vistavka “Rіzdvyana” (Kyiv) 2016-2017 The All Ukrainian painting...
