This antique style figurative photograph was created by London based photographer, Nick Simpson, in 2013. This scene depicts 4 characters in period dress including a blindfolded man touching a woman's leg as two others peek on. Simpson's aesthetic is enhanced by his playfulness and nostalgia for the Victorian era.
Simpson includes a slight patina around the sepia toned photograph's edge to accentuate its antique inspired quality. The Duratran print is paired with a dark wood frame.
About the work:
London based artist, Nick Simpson, is celebrated for his fictional series entitled The Bumforth Man Collection. The series consists of archival prints inspired by a mythical story concerning a quantity of glass photographic plates discovered in an old oak chest on the Bumforth Manor estate in rural England, the family home of the Gascoigne-Simpson's for over nine generations. These plates, which had laid gathering dust for over a hundred years, were supposedly the work of Simpson’s great grandfather, Samuel Heracles Gascoigne-Simpson, a disciple of William Henry Fox Talbot, commonly considered to be the father of photography. To bring this story to life, Simpson starts by building a set, authentically styled and dressed to re-create the Victorian photographic salons of the late 1900s. This becomes the stage upon which he places his eclectic choice of models and actors, all following his original tight narrative to create a richly detailed tableau. "The Dark Forest", signed archival pigment print

"The Dark Forest" is a black & white landscape photograph measuring 16x24" unframed. All of Rick's photographs are printed on Hahnemühle Fine Art Paper using archival pigment-based inks. There are other edition sizes available, namely 11x17" and 6x10". Photographs are rolled carefully and shipped in a tube. Framing is optional and quoted separately.
The Dark Forest emerged following a hike through the Orangeville Conservation Area as the last remnants of daylight cast an enchantment through this stand of trees. The photograph was exhibited as part of the Horizons Group show at Toronto’s Twist Gallery in January, 2023.

Photographed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, this black and white archival pigment print by Betsy Weis captures a cluster of water lilies afloat on a glassy, onyx-like body of water. Looming clouds are reflected in the pond's serene surface. Crisp, moody, and rich in texture, the photograph can stand on its own as a quiet glimpse at nature, or can be juxtaposed with others in the series to form a more complete vision.
This photograph is available unframed, $1700. The image measures 20 x 30 inches, and the paper measures 24 x 26 inches.
Artist statement:
Nature provides the perfect model of beauty, according to Plato and Socrates. In the classical period, something was considered beautiful because it existed in nature; art was secondary. In the 18th Century, the German philosopher Johann Joachim Winckelmann argued against the idea that art imitates life, believing that qualities superior to nature are found in art, specifically, ideal beauty, and “brain-born images”. Neoclassical thought represented that art need not serve any end other than its own existence. For me, beauty is an ideal, nature is real, and art comes from the brain.

Ian Sanderson (born 1951 Scotland, died 2020 Spain) was a Scottish photographer.
Ian produced images over a 35 year career. For most he worked as both a Commercial and Fine Art photographer; during his last years concentrated on his personal archive.
Ian and his widow Nathalie have worked for many years with alternative printing techniques in their workshop, ISP, creating Platinum Palladium, Silver Gelatin, Lith or Gum Bichromate.
This culminated in a large retrospective exhibition in Barcelona which was sponsored by the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation.
Platinum Palladium printing is a traditional photographic technique which precedes silver gelatin technique.
Many photographers have worked with it in the past as Irvin Penn, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Robert Mapplethorpe, Sebastiao Salgado o Ormond Gigli with its Platinum with gold leaf print 'Girls in the Windows'.
ISP Workshop continues with the work of Ian's widow to create archival pigment prints like this one but also rare and personalized photographs.

Born in Córdoba, Argentina, photographer Pablo Saccinto had a unique journey to discovering his passion for photography. Before he ever picked up a camera, Saccinto studied "Dramatic Arts" at the Royal Theatre, seminary by Jolie Libois and attended the National University of Cinema and Television whilst practicing figure skating as a hobby. However, Pablo wanted his dream to became a reality. In 2009 He decided to try out and audition for Disney On Ice.
One year later, Saccinto became part of the magic. Since then He had the opportunity to participate in different productions of the company as Disney on Ice presents, “Toy Story 3", "Rockin’ ever after", "Let’s Celebrate", "100 years of magic", the big phenomenon "Frozen", and his current show "Dare to Dream", traveling to over 20 countries.
Some of the roles Pablo portrayed were, Le Fou from Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, and Miguel from the movie Coco Disney/Pixar.
It was through his career as a figure skater that Saccinto found new opportunities in his ever-changing surroundings. Traveling around the globe and seeing all the beauty that this world has to offer opened the door to pursue photography further.
Traveling has opened his mind and inspires him to photograph different cultures and even allows him to get to know himself on a before unknown level.
