This dynamic work was realized by the esteemed 20th Century modern artist Mon Levinson in 1964. The work was realized in 1964, and printed in 1965 by Chiron Press in New York- the same year that Levinson was included in the seminal Op-Art exhibition "The Responsive Eye", alongside contemporary luminaries such as Bridget Riley. An identical work from this edition resides in the permanent collection of the New York MoMA. This mixed media work consists of an translucent vinyl sheet layered over a print- part etching, part lithograph. The clear vinyl sheet is embossed with a tight pattern of sinuously curved repeating black lines and is subtly raised in places- creating a subtle three dimensionality and dynamic sense of movement. The paper is inscribed with the same recurring pattern of snaking black lines, like a fine filigree, with two weighty black geometric forms that appear to crowd the composition. Smaller geometric forms reside within creating the apparition of negative space in the bone hued paper. The juxtaposition of the delicate texture and colossal feeling forms imbues the piece with a stunning dynamism and tension, helping to explain why Levinson is among the most influential and important artist to come out of the Op Art movement. His work is in the permanent collections of important institutions around the world including the Museum of Modern Art as well as the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Robert Indiana's 1997 black leather-covered book portfolio "The American Dream" was printed and published with 30 screenprints: 6 loose each signed and numbered and 24 bound not signed and numbered, as issued. Forward by Susan Ryan, text by Michael McKenzie and poems by Robert Creeley. The book was issued within a white cardboard packing box with red and black lettering.
This image is based of Indiana's 1971 screenprint edition "The Calumet", (Sheehan No. 64, page 43), from his 1971 "Decade" series, (Sheehan No. 63-72, page 42-44). The prints in that portfolio reproduce one of Indiana's paintings from each year of the 1960's. The bear they same titles as the corresponding paintings. "The Calumet" is a 1961, 90" x 84", oil on canvas painting which is within the permanent collection of the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA.
"The Calumet", derived from Longfellow's "Song of Hiawatha", reflects Indiana's ongoing involvement with American literary associations and sources. As interpreted, by Indiana, the schematized image of the red clay peace-pipe smoked by the Indians in Longfellow's poem symbolizes mankind's potential to eradicate war. - (Sheehan page 9). Luisa Duarte’s works has a strong connection with her Latin American roots, with special focus in the geometrical abstract movement, a movement adopted by Latin America during the late 50’s. It was very prominent in Venezuela. Probably the most prominent collection of geometric abstract art was given to MOMA by Patricia Phelps de Cisneros who now resides in the USA.
Her works are focused on explorations of shapes, lines , color and also on memories of her childhood in a promising country. Those memories are transformed into dynamic works invoking good energies to bring back what we have lost.
In these complex geometrical systems, objects intersect, merge and collide, producing negative spaces that call the viewer to attention. In some cases, the almost imperceptibly off-kilter placement of geometrical elements within a composition speaks to her emphasis on relationships - the objects always exist in relationship to each other.
There is a constant interest in constructing and deconstructing, and the consideration of endless juxtapositions.

Through subliminal transfer on textile that is made with recycled plastic, he creates a soft work where the colors get all the attention. For the viewer, this gives the opportunity to be constantly shifting their perspective over the gradients.
