Andy Warhol
The name of American artist Andy Warhol is all but synonymous with Pop art, the movement he helped shape in the 1960s. He is known for his clever appropriation of motifs and images from popular advertising and commercials, which he integrated into graphic, vibrant works that utilized mass-production technologies such as printmaking, photography and silkscreening. Later in his career, Warhol expanded his oeuvre to include other forms of media, founding Interview magazine and producing fashion shoots and films on-site at the Factory, his world-famous studio in New York.
Born and educated in in Pittsburgh, Warhol moved to New York City in 1949 and built a successful career as a commercial illustrator. Although he made whimsical drawings as a hobby during these years, his career as a fine artist began in the mid-1950s with ink-blot drawings and hand-drawn silkscreens. The 1955 lithograph You Can Lead a Shoe to Water illustrates how he incorporated in his artwork advertising styles and techniques, in this case shoe commercials.
As a child, Warhol was often sick and spent much of his time in bed, where he would make sketches and put together collections of movie-star photographs. He described this period as formative in terms of his skills and interests. Indeed, Warhol remained obsessed with celebrities throughout his career, often producing series devoted to a famous face or an object from the popular culture, such as Chairman Mao or Campbell’s tomato soup. The 1967 silkscreen Marilyn 25 embodies his love of bright color and famous subjects.
Warhol was a prominent cultural figure in New York during the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The Factory was a gathering place for the era’s celebrities, writers, drag queens and fellow artists, and collaboration was common. To this day, Warhol remains one of the most important artists of the 20th century and continues to exert influence on contemporary creators.

- Untitled (Pepsi Cola), pop, Italian, Pepsi Cola, LithographBy Mimmo RotellaLocated in Milano, ITFrom a series of pop lithographs by Mimmo Rotella, issued by Prearo Publ., Italy, dating back to the early Nineties. Signed on the lower right, numbered on the lower left. Edition of 100 esemplars, ed. PA. The piece is accompanied by a certification of authenticity issued by a gallery. The conditions of the piece are mostly perfect: no traces of time and no scratches and perfectly saved margins. The piece travels unframed so as to have cheaper and safer shipping upon the buyer's request. As the piece travels from Italy, please consider that the fulfillment of exportation papers requires a minimum of one week from the moment of purchase. Mimmo Rotella, who represented Italy in the 1964 Venice Biennale, was experimental to his core: in his poetry, paintings, photographs, sculptural assemblages, and collages, he broke down conventions, leaving behind a body of extravagant work. He began as a painter of geometric abstractions in the early 1950s, then turned away from his studio and toward the world around him. There he found the weathered movie and advertising posters, which he would tear off the walls, affix to canvases, and rip further to develop semi-abstract compositions out of mass media imagery, which he called “double décollages.” Through his collages, he became associated with Raymond Hains, Jacques Villeglé, and François Dufrêne—together known as Les Affichistes. Rotella was also linked to the French Nouveau...Category

- Peekabooblonde, Lithograph, Pop and Contemporary Pop, Nude, Pastel ColorsBy Mel RamosLocated in Milano, ITOriginal lithograph and collage on cardboard by Mel Ramos, dating back to the Eighties by Plura editions, Milan. The artwork is signed and numbered on the front in pencil. Numbered 69/120, the work is included in the 120 numbered copies hand signed by the artist. The piece appears a sort of three-dimensional collage, based on the difference in volumes between the image on the back and the black cardboard cover, which make the multilevel work more intriguing. The artwork's provenance is a prominent Italian private collection. The piece is accompanied by a certification of authenticity issued by a gallery. The conditions of the piece are mostly perfect: no traces of time and no scratches and perfectly well-preserved margins. The piece could also travel unframed in order to have cheaper and safer shipping at the buyer’s request. As the piece travels from Italy, please consider that the fulfillment of exportation papers requires a minimum of one week from the moment of purchase. Mel Ramos’s provocative, humorous paintings mix idealized nude women with the imagery of popular culture—Coca Cola bottles, movie posters, and the like. A prolific artist from his emergence in the 1960s onward, Ramos has often based his nudes on the female celebrities of the day, from Marilyn Monroe to Scarlett Johansson. His style references the sensuality and glossy flatness of pin-ups and Playboy spreads and has drawn the ire of feminists and art critics alike, despite Ramos’s assertion that his works are “apolitical”. Though clearly aligned with Pop art in his appropriation of imagery from mass media and consumer products, Ramos calls his practice rooted in Surrealism and its emphasis on “absurd conjunctions”—in his case, a beautiful nude woman emerging from a Snickers wrapper or lounging seductively in a banana split...Category

Klauber did Warhol a favour and introduced him to Burtin and the opportunity to work with Columbia’s, and later RCA’s, art director Robert M. Jones. Robert M.
