Biography:
Emmanuel Robbe called "Manuel Robbe", born in Paris on 16 December 1872 And died in Nesles-la-Vallée in 1936, is a French painter and engraver. Son of Alfred Auguste Charles Robbe and Marie Alphonsine Henry, the young Emmanuel Robbe studied at the Lycée Condorcet where he became friends with Gaston de Pawlowski , then joined the Lycee Louis-le-Grand , one of the La France. He then became a pupil of the Julian Academy where he met many personalities and then entered the Paris School of Fine Arts .
In November 1897, he had a son named Céline Bluem, known as "Maud" (1877-?), Also known as Manuel, and whom he recognized in 1899 with witnesses Jules Depaquit and Georges Delaw at the mayor of the 18th arrondissement of Paris . The couple divorced in 1911. Robbe quickly became an accomplished engraver specializing in the technique of aquatint .
He regularly exhibits in the salons of the Society of French Artists ; The Parisian merchants Edmond Sagot , Georges Petit and Pierrefort publish and disseminate his engraved works. In 1895, his poster for the oil lamp L'Éclatante is reproduced in the magazine Les Maîtres de l'affiche published by Jules Chéret (1895-1900). An engraving entitled Minuet of Autumn , is published in L'Estampe moderne (1897).
In 1900, at the Universal Exhibition , his work was awarded the bronze medal for an engraving entitled The summer (color etching of 25.5 × 40 cm ). His drawings are published in Cocorico (1898-1900) and Le Frou-frou (1901-1902). In 1905, the Galerie Georges Petit presented his works as part of a large exhibition entitled Original engravings in colors .
During his life as an artist, Manuel Robbe produces many aquatints , dry spikes , strong waters and some advertising posters as well as many unique works (oil on canvas, watercolors or pastels). An accomplished athlete, he is captain of the Fencing team of the Fine Arts, during the interprofessional championship of Paris in 1912.
During the war of 1914-1918 , when he was relieved of all obligations, he enlisted in the air force as a pilot and was awarded the war cross with quotations for his heroic feats of arms; Which explains why there are hardly any works dating from this period, but which is worth several engravings representing German and French military aircraft. Manuel Robbe's works are a moving testimony to the lives of women and men of his time. Manuel Robbe loves to travel a lot and has a real attachment for Brittany that he has depicted on many occasions.
He died in 1936, after devoting a large part of his life to printmaking . He was buried in Nesles-la-Vallée ( Val-d'Oise ) where he had a second home.

Manuel Robbe
Manuel Robbe lived in Paris all his life, creating images that echoed the polished splendor of the Belle Epoque. He exhibited often at the Salons, first at the Société des Artistes Français (winning a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900) and after 1905 at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. As the turn of the century, critic Gabriel Moury noted, Robbe's favorite subject was the "modern woman," her costumes, and activities and the visual elegance of her world. Absorbing the influence of Impressionism, particularly Renoir, Robbe applied a sensitive painterly touch to techniques that fit with the new paradigm of mass production. He designed and printed posters for corsets and bicycles, seeing, like Toulouse-Lautrec, the artistic potential of the new commercial era. Robbe also created illustrations for humorous magazines and made colored etchings of the works of contemporary artists. He was a favorite artist of the celebrated Parisian print publisher Edmond Sagot, who promoted his work. Robbe was a pioneer of the à la poupée process, enabling an artist to print multiple colors from a single plate. He invented his engraving technique known as “sugar-life,” using a mixture of sugar, India ink and gum Arabic on Zinc plates. The plates were heated, intricately worked and color was applied with brushes made of rags; Robbe then used his fingers to perfect the tones. Such technical mastery allowed Robbe to make each image unique, imbued with a lushness and immediacy befitting of the era in which he lived.

This review was founded in 1897 in the continuity of the review Les Beaux-Arts published between 1861 and 1865; Jules Comte, the founder, entitled his first issue Les Beaux-Arts - Revue nouvelle then changed the title to La Revue de l'art ancien et moderne. Jules Comte directed the review until his death in 1912. Raymond Woog took over , who was provisional director until the start of the war in July 1914. In 1919, André Dezarrois took over this review and was its director until December 1937, date of last issue (published in January 1938). In the meantime, it publishes the Bulletin of ancient and modern art, which has gained a certain notoriety in the community.

Tony Minartz, pseudonym of Antoine Guillaume, born 8 April 1873 to Cannes and died in that city on 13 December 1944 Is a painter, draftsman , illustrator and engraver French.
Painter autodidact , Tony Minartz starts to become known in 1896 by exhibiting paintings at the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts , and then decorates the Pompadour theater of painted panels for fashion shows " Grand Guignol ", directed by L. Darthenay. In 1903, Henri Béraldi , with whom he worked, praised him in The Journal of ancient and modern art, writing that "it was thirty years ago," and he has received advice from Paul Renouard to be formed the technique of etching ; Béraldi adds that his favorite subjects are "Paris at night Paris at night, always." Minartz also gives them some high-remarkable in The Journal of ancient and modern art until 1910: balls, cafe concerts, Parisian in their most beautiful dresses, but also music-halls, music halls, restaurants, large and small theaters, are the preferred settings of his compositions.
Its fertile period seems to end in 1914. In addition to the National Salon, Minartz exhibited in Paris at the gallery Bartholomew (1903), the Independent Living (1905, 1906) and the gallery Devambez (1909) and received the Academic Palms .
