Female Figure - Original Etching on Paper by Domenico Cunego - 1777
Located in Roma, IT
Female Figure is an original modern artwork realized in the half of the XVIII Century by the Italian artist Domenico Cunego (Verona, 1724 or 1725 - Rome, 1803). Original B/W Etching on paper. Excellent conditions. Excellent Etching depicting a female standing figure, an allegory. The impression is very fresh and has been realized wih soft and delicate strokes. The work has been realized by the Italian artist Domenico Cunego (Verona, 1724 or 1725 - Rome, 1803). He was an Italian engraver; he began his artistic career as a painter, producing several works, which are either lost or otherwise unidentifiable. At 18 he started engraving, a technique on which he was probably self-taught. The engravings he made on Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, published in the Schola Italica Picturae (1773) by Gavin Hamilton, were an important source for the artists of his time. Cunego is relevant not only for the reproductions of the paintings of his fellow countryman Guido Reni and other contemporary Italians such as Antonio Balestra...

Goat - Etching by Antonio Tempesta - 1610s
Located in Roma, IT
Goat is a wonderful black and white etching on thick laid paper, realized by the Italian master Antonio Tempesta (1555-1630). Not signed. In excellent conditions. Including a cream-colored cardboard passepartout, 34 x 50 cm. An exciting original print, with all the dignity of a mythological or epic story, represented with an incredible balance of black and white, light and shadow, and a typical Baroque dynamism. Antonio Tempesta, also known as Il Tempestino (Florence, 1555 - Rome, 1630), was an Italian painter and engraver of the early Baroque period. Antonio Tempesta trained in the culture of late Mannerism, with a naturalistic but also calligraphic taste, acquired from the frequentation of Giovanni Stradano, with whom he collaborated in the decoration of Palazzo Vecchio. Moving to Rome in 1573, he worked for Pope Gregory XIII, frescoing some maps of Rome in the Vatican, including the famous Map of Rome (1593). In the pontifical capital, he worked for many noble families and for important cardinals, such as Alessandro Farnese and Scipione Borghese. His works are in San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, at the villa in Caprarola, in Tivoli. He returned to Florence for a brief stay, where he collaborated with Alessandro Allori...

Some information and old prices inscribed in pencil to their sheets. A missal is a book that contains the prayers, chants, biblical readings, and rubrics for celebrating Mass. He was active as a printer in Venice from 1476 to 1486, and afterwards in Augsburg. From 1475 to 1478 he was in partnership with two other German printers. The first book the partnership produced was the Calendarium (1476), written and previously published by Regiomontanus, which offered one of the earliest examples of a modern title page. Other noteworthy publications are the "Historia Romana of Appianus" (1477), and the first edition of "Euclid's Elements" (1482), where he solved the problem of printing geometric diagrams, the "Poeticon astronomicon", also from 1482, "Haly Abenragel" (1485), and "Alchabitius" (1503). Antonio Canova - Etching by G.E. Morghen - Late 18th Century
Located in Roma, IT
Image dimensions: 19.3 x 17.5 cm. Antonio Canova is a beautiful black and white etching on paper, realized between 1770-1810 by the Italian old master, Giovanni Elia Morghen (1721-1789), after a painting by Pellegrini, as the inscriptions on plate report. Title on plate on the lower margin at the center. This original print represents Antonio Canova the Italian sculptor and painter, the greatest exponent of Neoclassicism in sculpture and for this reason called "the new Phidias", in the official portrait reserved to the great personalities. Realized with full mastery of the technique, this old master's print is in excellent condition, as good as new. Absolutely to collect! Giovanni Elia Morghen (Florence, 1721) Giovanni Elia Morghen came from a family of engravers in Florence. According to the testimony of Raphael, the most illustrious member of the family, his grandfather was originally from Montpellier and, after marrying a Genoese woman, he moved to Florence, where he opened a lace shop. Both their sons, Giovanni Elia and Filippo, specialized in chalcographic art: Giovanni was predominantly a draftsman, whilst Filippo mastered the art of carving. In Florence, Giovanni Elia Morghen was a pupil of Giovan Domenico Ferretti, and he probably also worked at the workshop of Carlo Bartolomeo Gregori. Indeed, he, with the other artists of the school, made 26 of the engravings present in the second Florentine edition (1766) of the Salon paintings at the palace of Florence. He then moved to Naples with his brother. From 1756, he began participating in the creation of the tables of the Antiquities of Herculaneum, a work of several volumes published in Naples with various interruptions in the late nineteenth century. In 1767, he published six tables with representations of the temples of Paestum, taken from drawings by Antonio Joli...

Assassinat de Basseville à Rome - Original Etching by P.G. Berthault - 1793
Located in Roma, IT
Assassinat De Basseville à Rome is an original black and white etching realized by Pierre Gabriel Berthault, after Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines in 1793. Title with caption on plate on the lower center: "Assassinat de Basseville, à Rome/ le 13 Janvier 1793, ou 23 Nivose An Ier de la République". Below the image on the lower margin, "Swebach Desfontaines onv. et del. / Berthault sculp." is etched on plate. This modern artwork is numbered "N. 76", because it is from the series Les Tableaux historiques de la Révolution française. As a matter of fact, Pierre-Gabriel Berthault is well-known for having engraved plates from this collection with the collaboration of the engraver Jean Duplessis-Bertaux. A work - hanging in the balance between news and history - with illustrations of salient or minimal events occurred during the French Revolution. As a celebration of the new ideals of brotherhood, justice, and equality, Les Tableaux immediately became a point of reference for journalism at the time. Of traditional cut, namely showing a view with many human figures, the engraving simplified the lines to be immediately readable for the general public. In our specific case, this original print represents the murder of Hugou de Bassville or Basseville (7 February, 1743 – 13 January, 1793), a French journalist and diplomatist, and protector of the radical Jacobins in Rome. In excellent conditions, except for a usual yellowing of the paper on the edges and a light trace of oxidations on the lower and right margins, beyond the marginal line of the matrix. Pierre-Gabriel Berthault (Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, 1737 - Paris, 1831) was a French master who made engravings from drawings by Jean-Claude Richard de Saint-Non (known as the Abbot of Saint-Non) and from paintings by Louis François Cassas. He depicted many views of Italy and created the collections Voyage à Naples and Voyage pittoresque de la Syrie, de la Palestine et de la basse-Egypte. Before the French Revolution, he was famous for being the author of the Vues intérieures de Paris and for tables with architectural elevations.
