There is a natural and raw understanding in Mukesh Sharma’s prints that both depict, and are influenced by, the Rajastani communities of his home town in rural India. In these Limited Edition fine-art prints, made over a period of twenty years, we are offered the colours of India’s ancient land, the textures, light and the patterns that are everywhere. In the patterns of the arable fields to the jali's (carved screens) in the architecture. This work is however not romantic nor nostalgic but shows a deeper rooted need to offer a visual heritage of place, of where the artist is from and the journey that he is taking. Mukesh Sharma's work: It is often in childhood that paths are set for what we will become. Mukesh Sharma hails from a rural, agricultural village in Rajasthan, India. His Father is a craftsman who fixed and mended farm machinery and understood the working parts in the processes. Sharma followed in his Father’s footsteps, as is often the case in Indian families, but his was not the machines of the fields but the presses of the printing studio. Like his Father, Mukesh Sharma is fascinated with understanding how things work and how he can manipulate the metal in his hands. It is not surprising then that his medium of choice is printing. One of the most physically challenging of all the practices, it can often be physically challenging as well as technical and detailed. In his youth, Sharma would draw with stones on walls and floors. He was lucky his family encouraged this and he is grateful for his early art-training at the Jaipur School of Art but it was at the Baroda Art Department that he was introduced to the great printing traditions of Jyoti Bhatt...

Beautiful 1994 monotype painting by American artist, David Chamberlain (b.1950). Summer Blues. Oil on Arches paper, image measures 9.75 x 11.75 inches; sheet measures 22 x 30 inches. The subtle variations of the oil application are quite lovely. Titled and signed by the artist in pencil, lower margin and on reverse. Excellent, clean condition with no damage or restoration. Unframed: sheet is loose with no backing. SHIPS ROLLED IN TUBE David Chamberlain (American, b Canton, Ohio 1949) has been a full-time artist since 1977, and has created more than 2000 original works in both two and three dimensions. Over 100 of his works appear in the collections of recognized arts institutions and museums, worldwide. A serious and passionate musician (a cappella jazz singer with three recording albums and over 700 concerts in this avocation), Chamberlain's artistic approach and imagery is inspired by studies of musical patterns and relationships. Other influences include topology, poetry, design and flying. His sculptures are noted for their playful explorations of lyrical, melodic edges and harmonious spaces. The surfaces are all one continuous form; the insides become the outsides and vice-versa; the edges are all one line. Mediums include mahogany, bronze, titanium, gold, and ceramic/porcelain. His paintings reflect an enthusiasm for composition and improvisation. Chamberlain has developed a way to create original oil paintings using methods adapted from monotype processes incorporating a light table and mirrors, an etching press, and a variety of hands-on tools (including fingers, rollers, static electricity and blowing)... but no brushes. This method, sometimes called the Chamberlain Method, makes possible the intense collaborations he is known for, where he and another artist work on the same painting at the same time. Called Duett Painting, this mutual and simultaneous way for two artists to paint together attempts to involve the backgrounds of each, directly and profoundly. There are no rules, and there is no place to hide whoever the artists are appears in the composition. As each artist's marks influence the other's, the painting takes on a momentum of its own, compelling the artists toward a new direction neither would have pursued on their own. Chamberlain has worked with over 100 artists, musicians, dancers, poets and creative people from the USA, Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. About half of his paintings are collaborative duetts; half are conventional solo works using these techniques. His studio is based near Boulder, Colorado. He is married, with two children, a dog and three cats. Fascinated by the simultaneous color print method, he started creating copperplate prints and soon gained recognition for his unique metallic reliefs, which he produced using collages of English newspapers. Takayanagi's passion for experimentation led him to create metallic emboss reliefs using his own photographs, and in the latter half of the 1980s, he moved on to silkscreen prints. He continued to push the boundaries of his art, constantly exploring new techniques and mediums. In 1978 and the following year, Takayanagi was appointed as an arts researcher for the Ministry of Culture and traveled to the United States, France, and the UK. These experiences enriched his artistic perspective and further cemented his reputation as a highly regarded artist. Takayanagi was part of the influential printmaking group Sosaku Hanga, which emerged in the early 20th century in Japan. This movement emphasized the artist's involvement in every stage of the printmaking process, from designing the image to carving and printing the blocks. Takayanagi's work often incorporates elements of nature and landscape, with an emphasis on texture and pattern. He also experimented with collage, incorporating found materials like newspaper clippings and photographs into his prints. From 1947–1949 he attended the Otis Art Institute, from 1947 to 1950 he also attended the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, and in 1950 the Chouinard Art Institute. Altoon was a prominent figure in the LA art scene in the 1950s and 1960s. Exhibitions of his work have been held at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The Baxter Museum, Pasadena, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Altoon's work was influenced by the Abstract Expressionism Movement although he is best known for his figurative drawings of the 1960s, with as Leah Ollman describes "a vocabulary of vaguely figurative, botanical and biological forms that he pursued until his death." He was part of the "Ferus group" of artists so called for their association to the Ferus Gallery that operated in Los Angeles in 1957–1966.
