Sylvia Vander Sluis
"Choice Without Violence", abstract, sculpture, fabric

2018

$950

About

“Choice without Violence” is a 48 x 24 x 6 inch sculpture in muted tones of hand-painted, translucent fabric. The artist advocates for Muslim women’s free choice in the decision of whether to wear the hijab. This abstract sculpture illustrates a woman swathed in flowing cloth that camouflages her physical identity. A tear down the center reveals vivid, silk ribbon - evidence of her underlying persona. “Choice” hangs on the wall from a wire and the signature is on the back. Sylvia Vander Sluis is a Boston-based, mixed–media artist. She synthesizes many different materials and techniques in collages of rich color and texture. Her work has been shown throughout the Northeast. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
