Adaa Art Dealers Association Of America

Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA)
Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA)
Founded in 1962, the Art Dealers Association of America is a vetted community of more than 180 top-tier galleries across the United States. Working with these member galleries, ADAA appraisers offer assessment services for artworks spanning from the Renaissance to the present day. The ADAA also arranges public forums on important art-related topics and hosts The Art Show, presented each year at New York’s Park Avenue Armory, which stands out among art fairs for its acclaimed selection of curated booths — many of which are one-artist exhibitions.

Asprey Desk Set and Document Holder, English, circa 1875
By Asprey International Limited
Located in Incline Village, NV
The Asprey Company is an iconic British luxury home goods maker, located in London, England and was established by William Asprey in 1781, They established their current residence in London on Bond Street between 1847 and 1859 after a couple of acquisitions. They were the Nieman-Marcus of the day and made only the finest products, utilizing the best quality materials; dealing in everything from jewelry to fashion, and appealing to those wanting to buy gifts for weddings, occasions, and events. This is a customized desk set, consisting of a crystal cut glass inkwell with a brass hinged lid, resting in a velvet lined well. Markings on the velvet lining under the inkwell indicate Asprey manufacture and Bond Street location “Asprey London, 166 Bond Street 22 Albemarle Street”. To the sides of the well are two Wedgwood cameos with the typical Greek mythology themed blue and white jasperware. Resting inside the recessed pen holder is a 14-karat gold nib pen marked “no. 3”, made by Aiken & Lambert, an American company (New York City) and manufacturer of fine quality gold fountain pens. Hand engraved brass mounts are applied to the surface, while the oval shaped inkwell and pen holder rests on three bun feet. The wood is an ebonized calamander (coromandel wood) which is a rare and valuable hardwood from Sri Lanka. Also included as part of the desk set is a hinged, fold over, double sided document holder with a blotter lined interior. The exterior of the document holder is also of calamander wood, with hand engraved brass mounts to the top surface. As with the desk inkwell and pen holder, the document holder has a Wedgwood blue and white jasperware cameo...

Untitled
By Edmund Daniel Kinzinger
Located in Dallas, TX
Edmund D. Kinzinger was the Chairman of the Art Department at Baylor University from 1935 to 1950. Previously, Kinzinger was the Director of the Hans Hofmann School of Fine Arts in Munich. Kinzinger left Germany in 1933 because he did not agree with the Nazi government. Kinzinger’s early work in Germany was influenced by Theosophy: a philosophy based on mystical insight into the nature of God. This guided Kinzinger’s art away from representation and towards abstraction. Later, Kinzinger assimilated German Expressionism, French Cubism, and Italian Futurism with his own continuing sense of the mystery of life. While his work incorporated the formal qualities of cubism, there was always a mystical moodiness just below the surface. "From EDK: The Early Years 1913-1935" by Philip Van Keuren...

Located in Dallas, TX
Reflections on Eagle Nest Lake "My first trip to Eagle Nest Lake was over 30 years ago. I was captivated by mists rising over the lake and flowing along the floor of the valley. With a background in theater, the unfolding light events immediately commanded my attention. The first photographs were made and I was hooked on Eagle Nest Lake and the opportunities it presented for photography. It has become my custom during an annual August visit to Taos, to begin the day with a drive to Eagle Nest Lake through Taos Canyon and over the pass descending into Moreno Valley. The first glimpse of the valley through the trees reveals the atmospheric conditions for the morning. The valley is 8,300 feet above sea level. This high elevation produces crisp cool mornings with mists often filling the valley. Early on I had no idea that I would be committed to this ethereal place for such a long time. During those first visits, cattle were grazing around the lake and the owners of a ranching operation had allowed lake access for fishermen. I learned later that the lake was formed by a dam built by two ranchers in the early 20th century to impound water of the Cimarron River for irrigation. This created a two thousand acre lake named for the eagles nesting in the area. The lake was stocked and fishermen arrived. The Eagle Nest...

Epic Western No. 35
By Jim Krantz
Located in New York, NY
Free shipping for the continental U.S. and a 14-day return policy. Jim Krantz Epic Western No. 35 40 x 68 inch chromogenic print Edition 2 of 5 Signed on adhesive signature label Krantz occupies a unique place in the history of contemporary art for his imagery blending western landscape photography with the figure of the cowboy as depicted and romanticized in American popular culture. The technical underpinning of his work was established when he studied with Ansel Adams and Paul Caponigro, but perhaps more importantly, Krantz’s work reflects a dictum that he learned from Adams: “Technical proficiency leads to artistic freedom.” His range and versatility are his forte, working with ease in demanding and ever-changing conditions. If Krantz’s work looks familiar, it is not surprising. Krantz, had been documenting the cinematic vistas of the American West for 20 years on commercial assignments and these much published images caught the eye of appropriation artist, Richard Prince, known for re-photographing advertisements and presenting the resulting images in a new “conceptual” context. Prince’s most famous series is his large scale reproductions of the cowboy images...
