Highly collectible and rare linocut poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso, circa 1954.. The print is in good vintage and measures 24" x 30". It is presented in a simple black wood frame and is signed in the print. Super cool and hard to find Picasso poster! #2912 Starting in the 1950s, Picasso worked with the linocut printer Hidalgo Arnéra to produce posters for ceramic exhibitions and bullfights. The printer described their working method as such: “Picasso worked at night; in the morning, Marcel the chauffeur brought what he had completed to the print shop with notes added by Jacqueline Roque. I pulled the proofs and returned them to [his home] La Californie at exactly 1:30. This regular rhythm of working continued for eight years, every day, except Saturday and Sunday.” This idiosyncratic procedure speaks to the collaborative effort of these printmaking ventures, which included his partner, his printer, and his chauffeur Title: Vallauris Exhibition 1954 Artist: Pablo Picasso Printer: Printed by Hidalgo Arnéra Publisher: Published by Hidalgo Arnéra Date: 1954 Medium: Linoleum cut ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in 1881, Pablo Ruiz y Picasso followed in his father’s footsteps as an academically trained painter and studied art at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in his native Spain. One interesting fact about Pablo Picasso is that the artist was extremely prolific, producing more than 150,000 works during the course of his life. Although known by just “Picasso,” his full name is actually 35 words long: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso. Police once thought he was responsible for stealing the Mona Lisa, and ironically, more Picasso paintings have been reported as missing or stolen than those of any other artist in history. Before he died at the age of 91, Picasso reportedly said, "Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can't drink anymore," and his parting words inspired Paul McCartney to write the song "Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me)."
