Antique Carved Oak and Bluestone Regence Style Console from Flanders, Circa 1850
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved circa 1850 in the northern reaches of France, known as French Flanders, this oak console or “table a Gibier” has a lovely black bluestone top with white and gray veining. The 1 ½ inch thick top, which has an inverted quarter-round molding, is supported by four long, cabriole legs adorned with elements inspired by nature, such as roquillards, rosettes, floral and foliate margents, and hoof feet.
Horizontal margents on the front belt are overshadowed by the elaborate embellishments below. A central carving depicts an Apolline mascaron set within an attenuated leaf wreath, evoking a sense of classical elegance. Below the medallion is a sprawling pierced foliate apron, which is also seen on the sides, but less grand in scale. The stretcher, as is customary with Regence-style furniture, has a modified, serpentine X-stretcher with a center rosette. Given the transitional nature of the Regence period in French history, our bluestone top console...

Antique Carved French Oak Oval Hunt Table with Boar, Dog, Fox, and Stag, c 1890
Located in Dallas, TX
A beautiful example of Black Forest style carvings, this hunt table is highlighted by a base adorned with four scrolled leaf legs, each topped by a different animal: boar, dog, stag, and fox (as seen in the main photo, clockwise starting at the lower left). The table was hand-carved from oak in France, circa 1890, with an oval top with rich color and graining. A protruding molding adorned with niches infilled with foliage surmounts a shallow apron with thin molding. Interestingly, there are sections of the infilled niches that are covered by additional leaf tips.
Each of the four fantastically carved animal legs are separated by a floret with a vertical orientation. The grouping is topped by a large, bulbous leaf cup, while a noix hangs down below, embellished with fluted crenellation. An onion foot was added beneath each animal, raising the table to a height of 29 ¾ inches. The perfect addition to a game room, study, or living room, our oak oval hunt table...

French Chestnut and Oak Desk from Le Grand Monarque À Chartres, circa 1720
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved, circa 1720, using chestnut and oak woods, this desk was recently part of Le Grand Monarque hotel in Chartres, France. The desk has been stripped at some point, allowing the beautiful wood grain and round dowel construction to become focal points.
The stunning desk has a shaped top with quarter round molding. A 23 ½” W seat opening is topped by a concave front drawer with a bronze drop handle affixed by a pair of rosette mounts. Similar handles can be seen on each of the four main drawers, which are surrounded by thick cavetto molding. These drawers also have a scalloped keyplate and mounts of two putti hunting dragons hidden amongst foliage. Interestingly, the sides are comprised of four rectangular panels, with the two nearest to the straight back side being functional drawers.
Known as a bureau caissiers (“cashier’s desk...

17th Century Spanish Walnut Wood Table with Single Plank Top
Located in Dallas, TX
A beautifully crafted wooden table from Spain, the walnut was hand-carved at the end of the Renaissance (in the 1600’s). As is the case with most Spanish Renaissance tables, the 1 ½” thick single plank top rests upon tightly turned legs. The edges of the top do not have molding or carvings but receive added character from the large dovetail grooves that were used to construct the table.
This table has framing beneath the top plank which houses three horizontally aligned drawers. Each drawer façade has an iron escutcheon in the shape of shield with two engrailed top edges. The keyplate is set within a foliate margent that is surrounded by several layers of molding. Identical carvings and iron plates can be seen on the opposite side of the table, which has faux drawer fronts. Beneath the belt are four turned legs connected by an H-stretcher.

18th Century French Cherrywood 'Bureau de Pente' Slant Top Writing Desk
Located in Dallas, TX
Larger than the typical Louis XV writing desk, this cherrywood bureau de pente was hand-carved in France during the late 1700’s, just after the period ended. This type of desk went by several names, including bureau dos d’âne and secrétaire à dessus brisé, and they almost always featured a fold-down writing surface.
Four long, slender cabriole legs, which are typical of Louis XV writing desks, provide a sturdy base for the beautiful desk. The curvaceousness of the legs continues throughout the desk, from the subtly contoured sides to the highly sinuous apron on all sides. Set within the apron are two drawers with round bronze pulls that flank a faux center drawer with a foliate and shell handle.
The fold-down writing surface, which has a functioning lock with a foliate escutcheon, opens to reveal eight small arbalete drawers arranged in four columns. Above the topmost drawers of each column is an open storage compartment. There are two more larger storage compartments in the center above a false-bottom hidden compartment. The fold down writing surface is held by a set of polished steel arms.
A graceful and functional bureau de pente from the late 18th century, this cherrywood slant top writing desk...

Antique French Wrought Iron Railing Console with Shellstone Top
Located in Dallas, TX
Originally a balcony railing, this salvaged antique iron has been repurposed into a magnificent console table with a shellstone top. The railing was salvaged from a French building that was constructed in the late 1800’s.
A two-inch-thick cream stone with white inclusions surmounts the painted green ironwork. The stone, which features a stunning display of shell and coral trace fossils, has been carved with a thin beveled edge. Directly beneath the stone is a row of repeating geometric shapes joined by pierced circles. The pattern is a larger open circle followed by a horizontally aligned open rectangle. Small roundels join the rectangles to the horizontal bars above and below.
On the other side of the lower bar is a second row of repeating shapes, this time vertical rectangles followed by larger rectangles with incised corners and an inset elongated oval. Once again, the open ironwork is joined by pierced circles and roundels. On each end is a scrolled section that blends subtly into another geometric motif.
This recently converted wrought iron railing...

Early 18th Century Painted Italian Console Table with Rouge Royal Marble Top
Located in Dallas, TX
Console tables are beautiful, graceful tables that also serve a practical purpose. These tables are aligned against a wall, often between two windows and/or placed beneath a mirror. You might find accessories or artwork resting on the marble or wooden tops. During the Regence period, these tables would often be painted to match the colors of the wood paneling of the walls, indicating that this console table came from an opulent room.
Hand-carved in Italy during the 1700’s, the wood has a lacquered white finish with gilded highlights. The rouge royal marble from Belgium has white and gray veining and light inclusions with a quarter round finish on three sides (like most consoles, the backside is typically left unpainted or raw – as this is the side that abuts the wall).
Beneath the thick marble are four cabriole legs with pied-de-biche (deer’s foot...

Stripped and Parcel Paint French Rococo Style Center Table with Rouge Marble Top

This elegant and beautifully carved wooden center table from France incorporates design elements from two of the most popular French periods.
The intricate hand-carved base exhibits aspects of the Rococo style: highly ornamental with asymmetrical carvings, scrolling curves and gilding. Although the wood has since been stripped, the table has a few faint traces of gold remaining in places. The white gesso/paint has been partially left throughout the table base and then glazed over to produce a beautiful and unique finish.
This table can also be described as a Louis XIV “table à gibier...
