S/S 1999 Gucci by Tom Ford Pink 'Acid Flower' Silk Leather Strap Dress Runway

About the Item

Presenting a bright floral Gucci dress designed by Tom Ford. From the Spring/Summer 1999 collection, this dress debuted on the season's runway as look number 9, modeled by Maggie Rizer. This dress features Ford's bright red and pink 'acid flower' print, used in several looks that season. The dress features open sides connected by leather straps and a ruffle hem finish. The same dress was used in a February 1999 Vogue campaign, shot by Mario Testino, in Dutch Magazine on Emily Sandberg, and was also brought back as part of the 'Gucci Vault.' This collection is remembered for its drastic departure from Tom Ford's signature sleek minimalism. Ford wanted a challenge after the success of his earlier collections for Gucci. Colorful, exaggerated floral prints and heavy beading served as an exercise in maximalism that stayed true to Gucci's design staples and Ford's reputation for selling sexy.
