This stunning Judith Leiber alligator handbag serves double duty as a piece of costume jewelry for the wrist. The versatile cognac colored skin is embellished with a large ring shaped gold tone metal handle. The handle is decorated with skin and cabochon beads in shades of navy blue and ruby red. It opens with a snap front closure to reveal a coordinating leather lined interior featuring an open pocket and a zippered compartment. The front of the bag has a petite shape but the accordion silhouette provides for a roomy interior perfect for modern day accessories. Though refined in appearance and would be right at home with dressy attire ... it also has a youthful vibe and would lend itself to a fun accessory for jeans and a deconstructed look. The original change purse, mirror with cover, tasseled comb and Neiman Marcus price tag are included but the original dust bag is missing in action and a new generic cover has been substituted. The original price was $4,050 and it was purchased on sale for $2,430.
CONDITION
At first glance, the handbag is all kinds of gorgeous though there are some issues on closer inspection. There is a darkening of the skin at the right front flap and on the skin at the right side of the handle ... please see photographs 5 and 6 for details. There is one blue stone missing at the back of the handle as shown in photograph 7 and can also be seen in photograph 8 showing the back view. In addition, there is a scratch on the 'Judith Leiber' medallion as seen in photograph 10 and the tassel on the original comb has seen better days though the comb itself is fine.
MEASUREMENTS
The body of the handbag measures 9.5" wide x 6.75" tall x approximately 3.5" deep. The handle measures 11" from end to end providing for an approximate 4" drop.
