13/14thC Large Thickly Cast Iron Korean Buddha, 9020
About the Item
Very rare large thickly cast iron Korean Buddha (a magnet sticks to it). In an extremely early backless style. I believe this piece could be as late as 13 to 15thC, though likely earlier-and possibly much earlier. Extremely large for its style at 16 1/8 inches tall and thickly cast. Beautiful smooth, untouched patina. Missing (separately cast) hands. The bottom has a diameter of 4 1/4 inches. Very peaceful expression. You are unlikely to see another of this type in this size and quality outside a book or museum. I have searched for another for 20 years and have been unable to find another fraction of its size.
