About the Item
A large and impressive antique Chinese Qing Dragon & Ho Ho Bird chasing a flaming pearl decorated vase dating from the 19th century. This finely potted porcelain vase is of large baluster shape standing raised on a round unglazed foot rim with a recessed glazed base and with a narrow funnel shaped neck and shallow bowl-shaped top. The vase is applied with small Foo dogs to either side of the neck and is finely hand painted with a dragon emerging from the waves and a Ho Ho bird flying amidst clouds, both chasing a flaming pearl. The decoration is painted blue against a celadon green ground with blue applied to the small dogs of Foo. The vase is not marked however is a stunning period example.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
In good presentable condition a with wear associated with age and use. There is a very fine small surface firing hairline within the body and a fine surface star crack to the base. Neither detracts from this large and impressive example.

The oversized vase of traditional meiping form, with a splayed foot supporting a baluster shaped body with high shoulders, short, narrow neck, and rolled mouth rim.
The large vase decorated with five dragons molded in relief. Their bodies painted in vibrant overglaze famille rose enamels of reds, greens, yellows and turquoise.
