About the Item

This delicate ceramic bottle is a Ming-dynasty (1368-1644) vessel originally used for serving rice wine or spirits. The gracefully curved form is known as a yuhuchunping, or pear-shaped vase, and is defined by its rounded body, tapered neck and flared lip, ideal for pouring wine. Dated to the 15th/16th century, the vase is decorated at the shoulder with horizontal stripes and spiral clouds, applied with loose brushwork and finished with a sheer celadon glaze, now worn from time. Hairline crack to body.
