Antique Hand-Painted Porcelain Picture of Peonies, Fruit Blossoms, and Lilies

About the Item

This lovely and rare hand-painted porcelain picture with a floral motif consists of tree peonies, fruit blossoms, and lilies, all of which are auspicious flowers in Chinese culture. Predominant colours are orange, pink, blue-green, yellow, brown, and grey, while the iridescence of the blue-green leaves and tree bark create movement and drama. The composition and quality of the painting indicate the superb skill of the artist and the ability to capture the essence beauty in nature. This unique ceramic painting is framed in warm brown hardwood with a wood backing. The frame also has two protrusions on each side indicating that it was part of a table screen. It is believed to be from the late Qing dynasty but could be older. This magnificent porcelain picture would brighten any room. Hanging on a wall or leaning on a shelf, it lends a pop of colour and delicate beauty to any décor. There are a few surface scratches on the porcelain and a couple of small pits as shown in pictures. The back of the frame is a bit loose at the top but the picture is secure. Otherwise, this item is in fine condition for its age.
