About the Item

Extraordinary Japanese Taisho period two panel byobu screen depicting Fujiwara Yasumasa playing the flute in the Ichihara Moor. Fujiwara Yasumasa (958 to 1036) was a famous Heian period courtier. Crafted on handmade mulberry paper with ink and natural color pigments by artist Matsouka konen in the Maruyama-Shijo school style. Signed with a seal on bottom right side and set in a natural wood frame with a silk and parcel gilt border. Beautifully crafted with intricate details having faded and muted colors that add to the character and charm of this post Meiji painting. The right side of the painting depicts a faint evening moon behind pampas grass.
