I mean, aren’t there days that SIX ARMS would come in handy ladies??? Guys too!!! I know it’s true in MY life!! LOL!! Just a little joke folks… I know this is a sacred & quite SPECTACULAR sculpture!!! Ok, time to get serious! This is a MAGNIFICENT sculpture of Deity Vasudhara featuring a gilded cast iron body bearing beautiful, aged patina that can only be gifted by the hands of time. This green patina actually gives it a “bronze” appearance, but it is not… it’s gilded cast iron. She is a GORGEOUS representation of Deity Vasudhara the Buddhist Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. She is revered for bringing both material comfort, fertility, spiritual wealth, and inner harmony… a reminder of abundance and merit. Her six arms symbolize the Six Perfections essential to Mahayana Buddhism which are compassion, patience, ethical conduct, joyful exertion, meditative concentration, and wisdom. Vasudhara is a prominent figure in Himalayan & Tibetan Buddhism notably prevalent in Nepal where she is known as the “Bearer of Gems” or “Gold Tara.” These statues are also often referred to as “Kwan Yin, Quan Yin, Guanyin” (several spellings) or “Bodhisattva,” and she IS in fact the Buddhist Deity of compassion however, she does not have the recognized 6 arms and is revered in China, Japan, and other East Asian countries. You may have also heard of 6 Armed “Mahakala” And, while he DOES have 6 arms…he is a powerful, wrathful protector and will bear a fierce expression on his face… Our Deity Vasudhara is more delicate & wears a serene expression upon her facial features. She would be a wonderful addition to a room where she can inspire mindfulness & peace such as a meditation space, a workout or Pilates room, amid an indoor herbal garden, aside some foliage in your sunroom, your library or reading room, in your bedroom, or any room where she can bring love, focus & serenity. She can be placed outside if you prefer but be prepared… as she will likely rust! There are limitless possibilities for her placement!! Whether you practice the Buddhist faith or whether you just appreciate a fabulous ecclesiastical sculpture, you should make this phenomenal example… YOURS. 20th Century Asian Sculpture Guan Yu Chinese Warrior Hand Carved Rosewood
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome vintage Asian Chinoiserie rosewood Guan Yu or Chinese warrior hand carved larger scale sculpture. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 20th Century. A warrior is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, children- the future of humanity. This is a magnificent vintage Chinese warrior or Guan Yu sculpture comprised of stunning rosewood with intricately hand carved details and a removeable guandao (Chinese pole weapon). In Chinese culture, General Guan Yu represents loyalty and valor. People believe that by having his image in art or sculpture in their home will protect their family from harm. And while we don’t believe he is going to break out with any actual martial arts moves; his fearless presence commands the room and demands attention! You may notice that in some of the photos our warrior friend is holding his guandao upside-down, don’t judge! Even the best of warriors tend to get exhausted from a long day of defending humanity and protecting mankind. A guy can get a little turned around! Just look at his expression… he is OVER it!! His hand is even up gesturing as if to say, “Talk to the hand!” LOL!! He is handsomely dressed from head to toe in full body armor and his long beard or Fu Manchu is flowing in the breeze. He stands proud upon a rounded square base at about 24 inches tall, so he is definitely larger scale, he will be fabulous in ANY room of your home, and he is the EPITOME of Chinoiserie excellence! Don’t let this incredible hand carved rosewood Chinese warrior sculpture...

Specifically, each plaque background has had a fresh coat of black paint however, they still have nicks, dings, and chiggers appropriate with age. We added new hangers, and the bronze figures retain their original patinated finish. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. If you are a lover of arts and culture, we have the perfect plaques for you!! We have four marvelous cast bronze Asian figures articulating extraordinary expressions of what we believe to be visual arts, culinary arts, musical arts, and performance arts. Each cast bronze figure is mounted upon a rectangular freshly painted black plywood base plaque, each bearing differing patina or signs appropriate with age such as nicks or dings that we feel only enhance the beauty of their presence. As a matter of fact, this particular set of four was among my mother’s personal collection for many years, so it holds a special place in my heart for sure!! In our research we discovered that Gansu is a province in north-central China. Its city Jiayuguan is best known for the magnificent Great Wall. Awesome!! Each cast bronze figure exudes their own form of art, celebrating life and all of the beauty that comes with it. One holds a serving tray with a couple of glasses and a carafe… in my world there is probably a delicious red wine inside that carafe just waiting to pass through my lips!! Whatever it may be, it must be something lovely, delicious, and a bit mysterious! Another figure embraces an incredible sculpture that drapes from the tip of her shoulder, under her arm, and secretly swoops behind her. Behold… a vision of loveliness left to your imagination … a puzzling and optically pleasing piece of artistry. While another figure proudly plays a flute, twinkling their fingers across the keys… filling the air with joyful notes & sounds that tickle your ears… But let’s not leave out the last figure dancing blissfully to the beat… skipping and shuffling her bare feet in the sand. And did you notice everyone is dressed to the T’s!! Gorgeous cloaks, gowns, Hanfu, headdresses, obis, wraps, and jewels!! What a PARTY...

Asia, Nepal circa 1950's. "The bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is the Buddhist embodiment of compassion. He is often portrayed as an elegant and gracious youth. The cult of Avalokiteshvara worship originated in India and spread across Asia, along with other Buddhist philosophies and practices. In some places Avalokiteshvara eclipses the Buddha in importance. Buddhist rulers, such as Prince Shotoku in Japan and the Dalai Lama in Tibet, have been seen as incarnations of this saviour. In Nepal, Buddhism flourished alongside Hinduism long after the religion had lost favour in India. Although the kings of the Early Malla period who ruled the Kathmandu Valley were Hindu, some of the greatest artistic achievements of the age were Buddhist. This gilt copper figure...

Condition as shown in photos- generally good, with an ancient iron patina that grows out of the metal. He is missing one hand. He emanates a powerful presence. Currently, he is securely attached to an old plexiglass stands. He is a very good size at 10 inches tall, by 4.5 wide inches by 3.5 inches deep. As he is solid-cast, he is quite heavy.
