About the Item

This account consists of five companies. As for me, I specialize in carefully selected Japanese antiques. With my 20 years of experience, I am re-proposing Japanese antiques from a new perspective. I would like to introduce a very old stone statue made in Japan. This is from the Meiji era (1860's-1900's). It is called “Daikokuten.” Daikokuten is one of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune and is famous for riding on a rice bale and carrying a large sack over his shoulder. In Japan, he is worshipped as a god of fertility. This was enshrined in an old Japanese house. Since it has been beside the hearth for an incredibly long time, soot has accumulated and clumped together to form this figure. It is a precious art piece that can only be created by the passage of time. This item evokes the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. It is a modest and humble beauty, the beauty of the unconventional, the opposite of vulgarity. It weighs 700g. Since ancient times, people have created and inherited necessary tools from familiar materials to survive in the severe struggle against nature, and have nurtured a lifestyle culture. The long use of these tools accumulates their flavor and reflects the way of life. The more severe the natural environment and the weaker human beings are, the stronger their power becomes. In today's world, where cheap and disposable products are encouraged, the act of repeatedly modifying and re-creating the things around us opens up a new world. With this philosophy in mind, we carefully select and collect beautiful, powerful, and unique Japanese antiques.
