About the Item

This is an old carved wooden dog made in Japan. It was produced in the late Showa period (1950s-1970s) and is made of zelkova wood, which has a beautiful grain. The robust and expressive zelkova wood creates deep shades in the carving, giving the work a unique presence. This work is not painted at all, and the texture and warmth of the wood itself can be felt as it is. It has a simple yet sophisticated impression, and exudes dignity in a quiet way. The most distinctive feature of this work is its abstract form. Facial expressions and details are kept to a minimum, and the soft, rounded form is impressive. The minimalist beauty of the modeling also has a somewhat humorous and friendly feel to it. It is a work with a blank space that seems to accept the viewer's imagination. It harmonizes with any space, whether Japanese or Western, and blends naturally into modern interiors.
