Grotesque Ceramic Plate Glazed Earthenware Hand Painted Italy Contemporary
By Francesco Raimondi
Located in London, GB
Francesco Raimondi, Poseidon Grotesque plate, glazed earthenware 60cm diameter - hand painted, unique piece Francesco Raimondi was born in 1959 in Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi coast, where he currently lives and works. A decorative artist by vocation, from his adolescence he trained at the major ceramic’s factories in the area. Raimondi represents one of the most significant contemporary expression of Southern Italy Majolica tradition: he is an exquisite decorator transferring traditional propitiatory grotesque themes into a contemporary fresh and innovative interpretation. From the late 1990s Francesco Raimondi has taken part in numerous exhibitions at regional, national, and international level. His solo shows include “Contemporary Mediterranean” at Palazzo Sant’Agostino and at the Temple of Pomona in Salerno and “Raimondesche” a large retrospective of his work hosted at MIC - Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, the museum with the largest ceramics collection in the world. In 2006, part of the Regione Campania pavilion, Raimondi won the Gold Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in London, awarded by Queen Elizabeth II. In 2016 he was assigned the title “Master of Arts and Crafts” by the Cologni Foundation at Milan Triennale and was included in the Golden Book of Italy’s Crafts Excellence. Large Platter by Birger Kaipiainen for Rörstrand in Limited Edition 294/500
Located in Stockholm, SE
Exceptional and beautiful large platter designed by Birger Kaipiainen for Rörstrand in limited edition, number 294/500. Decor with apples, plums and bunches of grapes. Birger Kaipiainen has been called "the master of ceramics" and "the undisputed ruler of decorative art". Highlights of iridescent glaze. The platter is in mint condition. No sign of use. Birger Kaipiainen began his career at the Arabia Art Department in 1937 and quickly found his own way to make art. The soon-to-begin Winter War and several losses in his personal life cast a dark shadow over the beginning of his artistic career, and this manifested as sadness and longing in his early works. They are dominated by ethereal, fairy-tale-like characters depicted in pastel tones, with references to early Italian Renaissance and longing for a more beautiful world. Kaipiainen graduated from the School of Arts & Crafts (later known as the Aalto School of Arts of Helsinki). After graduation he went to work for Finnish ceramics...

Bottega Intreccio Shizé S Woven Wicker 21st Century Centrepiece, SetsuShinobuIto
Located in Mogliano, Marche
Shizé S “The centerpiece draw its inspiration from Nature. The irregular shape of Shizè comes from the stones found in rivers.” Like a big rock sitting on furnishings in the home, this container has a soft, organic form. And it plays with the contrast between the ample size of the woven wicker part and the leather-clad plate that rests on the rim of the vessel. Complex in the making due to the asymmetrical form, and for the so called “passatemorte”, passages where the strand does not complete its circuit. Use and maintenance All the items are made with raw materials and are guaranteed for interiors. If it is necessary, they can also be installed outdoors as long as they are sufficiently protected from atmospheric agents and not directly exposed to the sunlight or water, in spaces like verandas, gazebos, arcades or protected spaces. The raw materials used for weavings could be not extremely homogeneous due to different physical properties and the items could have dimensions a bit different from descriptions listed in this document. The colors could change for the same reasons. Those features are the demonstration of authenticity of each product that is unique and handcrafted in Italy by Mogliano’s masters. Woven wicker is extremely resistant over the years, if it is stored in a dry place and without excessive temperature changes, and it could also change color or nuances due to its sunlight exposure based-on nature. The weaving by the craftsman is performed with soft and wet material, and the material dries naturally with the passage of time losing its elasticity. For this reason, avoid excessive pressures, overloads of heavy weights or impacts. The bases or wooden parts are entirely in solid wood: with the aging they could change in size and present natural micro-cracks. Avoid direct and long exposure to the sun, completely avoid wetting. About the lamp usage, in normal condition the items don’t require special maintenance. Technicals About item technical details and bulbs specifications, please refer to the technical data sheets. Cleaning Use a soft cloth for cleaning. Don’t use any chemicals, acids, scourers or steel brushes. The base in natural wood must be cleaned and dusted using a soft cloth, even slightly damp. Immediately wipe again with a soft, dry cloth. For lamps cleaning, unplug the appliance from electric power...

Antique and Vintage Bowls and Baskets

As decorative objects in your space, antique, new and vintage bowls and baskets make for a versatile addition to any corner of your living room, dining room or the console table in your foyer or entryway. Whether they’re positioned as a focal point for the family dining table or an accent on the shelving in your home office, or perhaps you’re just endeavoring to add minimalist ceramics throughout your home, an alluring art-glass centerpiece bowl or antique rustic fisherman’s basket is an easy way to elevate high-trafficked areas of your apartment or house.

Aside from the obvious functionality that a decorative bowl or basket brings to your kitchen, displaying such items behind the glass doors of a vintage storage cabinet or on your open kitchen shelving allows you to add a touch of personality and flair to the space, particularly if you’re accustomed to serving cocktails while you cook or if the kitchen is a common area for gathering and unpacking the events of the day.

As your bookcase is so much more than a place to, well, store books, adding a decorative bowl or basket — a mid-century modern work or an Art Nouveau–-era piece designed by French art-glass makers Daum — to the space where you keep your art monographs and coveted first editions can draw attention to your treasured library.

For the tranquil California coastal-style interiors you’ve worked so hard to create, fill a hand-carved wooden bowl on your console table with glass fishing floats or seashells, while a tall woven vessel by your front door can be populated with leafy green plants.

For anywhere and everywhere in your home, find a wide variety of antique or modern decorative baskets and bowls on 1stDibs today.
