Etling Car Mascot Naked Woman Sculpture in Opalescent Molded Glass
Located in NANTES, FR
Naked woman with long hair, creation of Mrs. Lucille Sevin in 1932. Signed Etling France In perfect condition Measures: Height: 22.5cm Diameter: 6.2cm Weight: 700 Grams Lucille Sévin is a French sculptor, active from 1920 to 1940. Lucille Sévin made many chryselephantine sculptures in the Art Deco style, using materials such as bronze, silver or gold, and ivory. His work was skillfully implemented and distributed by art publisher Edmond Etling. For a time, Sévin was artistic director of the Etling company. Her husband, the sculptor Jean Théodore Delabassé, also worked for Etling. Sévina also worked with glass, ceramics and porcelain. Her sculptures of dancers in frosted and iridescent milky glass like Isadora Duncan of 1925 were made for Etling in a glass factory in Choisy-le-Roi. Sévin exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris and became a member of the Society. Lucille Sévin won the bronze medal in 1932 and the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris 1937. She also exhibited her works at the Society of the Salon d'Automne in Paris. Edmond Laurent Etling (before 1909 – around 1940) was a French art dealer, gallery owner, designer, and a manufacturer of high-quality decorative objects made of bronze, ceramics and art glass in the Art Deco style. He owned La Societe Anonyme Edmond Etling (English: Edmond Etling Limited Company) for manufacturing, his foundry was named Edmond Etling & Cie, and sometimes the products are referred to as "Etling Glass...

Marble Roman relief representing a Christogram
Located in Bruxelles, BE
Marble Roman relief representing a Christogram Roman relief - 4th century 25 x 22 x 8 cm Provenance : Collection of the Château de B. À Nevers by Georges C.S., scholar born in 1833 and deceased in 1909 The entire castle and its collections were acquired in 1938 by the current owners of the estate A christogram is a monogram or combination of letters that forms an abreviation for the name of Jesus Christ. This rare fragment combines chi (X) and rho (P), the first two letters of Christ's name in Greek and it is one of the oldest and most popular early christian symbol. The monogram of Christ, or chrismon, is also a powerful symbol of imperial victory: it appeared to Emperor Constantine the Great before his battle against Maxentius in ad 312, promising victory in the name of Christ. In Plato's Timaeus, it is explained that the two bands which form the "world soul" (anima mundi...

Goldscheider Vienna Art Déco Figure, Spanish Dancer, by Josef Lorenzl circa 1930
Located in Vienna, AT
Depiction of a dancer in Spanish costume: she wears a mantilla, a veil cloth that covers the head and neck down to the shoulders. Often, as here, a high comb is also tucked underneath, the peineta. The cloth is still worn today for festive costumes and is mostly made in lace technique. In addition, the dancer wears an elaborately decorated with floral patterns asymmetrical ruffled skirt. On oval, black-beige marbled base in rare execution. This figure also exists as a group 'Spanish Dance' with dance partner, model number 7557, a more frequent version. Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), an Austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long...

French Art Deco Ceramic Group by ODYV, 1930s
By ODYV
Located in Saint-Amans-des-Cots, FR
French Art Deco ceramic sculpture by BERLOT-MUSSIER (Vierzon, 1929-1939), France, 1930s. Measures: Height: 9"(23cm), Width : 16.9"(43cm), Depth: 4"(10.2cm). Marked "Odyv" under the base. The ODYV brand is a creation of the Berlot-Mussier manufacture in Vierzon near Bourges (Cher, France). Created in 1927 from the meeting of Mr. Berlot, a coal wholesaler, and Mr. Mussier, a coal salesman, the company first produced porcelain before specializing in the production of earthenware. Art Deco style, it is a great success for the manufacture. If production slows down sharply during the Second World War, exports to big families in North Africa allow the company to recover well after 1945. Becoming its majority outlet, Berlot-Mussier will experience great difficulties after the independence of the Morocco and Tunisia in 1956, but especially Algeria in 1962. In the 1970s, the company was drawn into bankruptcy, following a crisis affecting the entire sector in Vierzon. The ODYV brand is a set of Art Deco objects produced between 1929 and 1939. It includes clocks with pendants, vases, shaped pieces as well as lamp bases. Art Deco appeared in Paris in 1925, during the international decorative arts fair. This style, based on the simplification and geometrization of shapes, will be very successful during the 1930s and ensure great success for ODYV. The specificity of this collection is its adaptability to customers. Indeed, the colors but also the shapes are chosen by the customer who can then order a unique piece according to his tastes. Customers may hesitate between a choice of pastel colors such as shades of pale green, beige, white or pink, all accented with gold or silver. All these objects were distributed by independent distributors who worked with Berlot-Mussier. A book retracing the history of the factory was published by the Charles VII...

Antique, New and Vintage Figurative Sculptures

Figurative sculpture is a modern art form in which artists create work that is typically representative of the visible world. However, sculptures that are considered to be figurative in style can definitely be inclusive of abstract elements. A wide range of antique, new and vintage figurative sculptures has been made over the years by both well-known and emerging artists, and these pieces can prove striking and provocative as part of your home decor.

Realistic representation in visual art has a very long history. And while figurative artists, whether figurative painters or sculptors, find inspiration in humans, animals and real-life objects, good figurative sculptures can make us think differently about how the real world should look. Just as figurative paintings might include Photorealistic human likenesses, they can also include elements of Surrealism and can suggest a creative and alternative reality. Figurative sculptures aren’t always realistic impressions of our world — depictions of the human form in classical Greek sculpture, for example, might emphasize beauty and physical perfection.

There are a variety of figurative sculptures on 1stDibs created by artists working in a number of styles, including Art Deco, Art Nouveau, mid-century modern and more. A large figurative sculpture can introduce an excellent focal point in a guest bedroom, while smaller works might draw the eye to spaces such as wall shelving or a bookcase that people may otherwise overlook.

When decorating your living room, dining room, home office and study areas with figurative sculptures, don’t be afraid to choose bold colors to inject brightness into neutral spaces. Texture is another factor to consider when purchasing figurative sculptures. A highly textural work of ceramics or wood will catch the eye in a sleek modern space, whereas a smooth, flat glass sculpture can offer an often much-needed contrast in a room that already has many textures.

On 1stDibs, find antique, new or vintage figurative sculpture or other kinds of sculpture for your home decor today.
