Sculptural Glazed Ceramic Lamp by Arpad Rosti
By Arpad Rosti
Located in Buffalo, NY
organic form sculptural glazed ceramic lamp by Arpad Rosti. Dark blue-green and grey in color. Best known for his remarkably inventive lamps, trays and vessels designed in organic, free form shapes, Arpad Rosti was a highly versatile artist, equally at home in both the ceramics and enameling fields. While most of his work was done in either clay or metal, in the late 1940s he also ventured into furniture design when he produced a group of tables in treated wood, mosaic, copper, and glass. His one-of-a-kind furniture was exhibited in 1949 at the Chinese Gallery in New York and written up in the New York Times. As further evidence of his wide-ranging talents, in 1972 he was commissioned to produce a stained glass window for a residence in North Caldwell, New Jersey which New York Times critic Joan Cook described as “a miracle of color and light.” Born in Subotica, Yugoslavia in 1909, Rosti studied architecture at the School of Industrial Arts in Budapest. In 1940, he moved with his wife Ilona to the United States and settled in New York where he became a naturalized citizen in 1945. In 1947 his work was featured in an exhibition organized by the Craftsmen’s Equity and presented at the Barbizon-Plaza Galleries in New York. The organization, of which he was President, aimed to “put craft on a business basis without sacrificing the individuality inherent in handmade articles.” Throughout the 1950s Rosti’s work was regularly chosen for the prestigious National Ceramic Exhibitions at the Syracuse Museum of Fine Arts (now known as the Everson Museum). It was included in seven of these exhibitions between 1946 and 1958 and in 1947 Rosti’s work was singled out by the New York Times critic Edward Alden...

Inside the cage is a 3 dimensional arrangement of mixed-media objects including childrens' blocks that spell F E A R, the hand of a clock, a disturbing plastic doll that hangs from a pulley, and deer horns. Upcycled Steampunk Spaceship by Chris Spollen
By Bergdorf Goodman
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Wonderfully unique up-cycled retro-futurism inspired "steampunk" rocketship sculpture by late New York City artist, Chris Spollen (August, 1952 – September, 2019). Chris Spollen had been a life-long resident of Staten Island. He was accepted into The High School of Art and Design, and then received a full scholarship to Parsons School Of Design NYC in 1971. Over the past forty years in his role as an award-winning illustrator, Chris was a pioneer in the field of graphic art and Illustration. Not only did he have his own home-built darkroom and a professional stat camera in his home, but he was also one of the first to introduce the computer in 1990 into the world of illustration. With it being his specialization, Chris devoted his passion and love for illustration to his established company, Moonlight Press Studio; after 30 years of entrepreneurship, he began teaching his knowledge of art and computer to the students at the Fashion Institute of Technology, which continued for some 20 very joyful years as an Adjunct Associate Professor. Spollen’s work has won numerous awards and is featured in many permanent collections, including The New Britain Museum of Illustration, The Museum of American Illustration, The Norman Rockwell Museum, the US Air Force Art Program, and The Pentagon. He’s also published several books of his illustrations; the latest one, The Art of Recycling, is a three hundred page full colored book of Chris Spollen’s recent sculptures published in 2015. In the summer of 2019, Chris Spollen showcased his Solo exhibition “Modeling the Future” at the Fashion Institute of Technology; and immediately after, pieces from the exhibition were transported and displayed at Bergdorf Goodman’s display...
