George, Raku Fired Modern White Ceramic Bust of Male Head by Pavel Amromin
Located in Chicago, IL
This is a white glazed and black clay raku fired ceramic bust. Though modern, this sculpture references Classical Greek and Roman antiquities. A subtle red glaze is used on the lips and the artist has purposefully and mysteriously left a portion around the neck between the head and the chest free of glaze, exposing the black clay beneath. The cracking on the surface is a result of the raku firing process and intended to be there. Pavel Amromin George, 2017 raku fired ceramic 17H x 15W x 9D in 43.18H x 38.10W x 22.86D cm Pavel G. Snuffbox Vessel Miniature Hand-Painted Sterling Silver Enamel Salimbeni
Located in Firenze, FI
Shaped snuffbox in 925/1000 sterling silver gold plated with fired enamel inserted in a fine hand engraving and with round miniature diameter cm. 3.3 hand painted always with fire enamels depicting a sailing ship. Early 19th century Viennese Baroque style. Fine hand engraving on all sides and bottom. Measurements cm. 7.5 x 7.5 x 2. Weight gr. 151. Designed by Franco Salimbeni in 1976 on inspiration of ancient original artifacts and manufactured in Florence at the Salimbeni company headquarters in several specimens, also with different colors and miniatures, with completely manual execution by artisan artists with thick slabs and large reinforcements suitable for supporting numerous high-fire enamelled firings at approximately 750 < 800° C. Miniature is a very ancient technique which consists of painting works in small proportions. It was born for the decoration of the first letter of the paragraph of the books. Over the years, however, this technique is refined and enriched, then moving on to precious personal items. Hand-painted miniatures can be done with multiple different techniques. The most important that we use on our articles are of three kinds: 1) Fire enamel. 2) Water tempera on an ivory plate. 3) Painted on mother-of-pearl. Fire enameled miniatures: On a first layer of enamel generally white or very clear or even transparent suitably liquefied at a temperature of about 750 ° C, the chosen subject is painted using miniature colors which are as many colored crystals, ground and reduced to a very fine, almost impalpable powder washed and purified in distilled water with the addition of small quantities of deoxidizing acids which, diluted with essential oils (usually essential oil of solder), can be mixed to form a palette of colors. With very fine sable hair brushes you draw the subject starting from the perimeter and then gradually adding various layers of color. It is necessary to carry out various firings very often so that the colors harden and are not absorbed by the underlying glaze as, during the subsequent firings at 750 ° C, during liquefaction, it would spread irremediably. Hence the need to form the painting a little at a time, cooking it numerous times. Therefore it is necessary to proceed with numerous retouching, often overlapping different colors that only the painter's experience knows. A beautiful miniature needs from 20 to over 50 firings and is finished when the painter deems he does not have to further intervene. Some colors must have darker tones than others because then, by superimposing the transparent enamel placed at the end of the miniature, they fade. This transparent layer, called “fondant” in jargon, must be smoothed and polished like all other translucent enamel colors. The miniatures with water tempera colors are painted on real ivory...

Large Austrian Neoclassical Style Porcelain Vases by Royal Vienna
Located in London, GB
Large Austrian Neoclassical style porcelain vases by Royal Vienna Austrian, Late 19th Century Height 98cm, diameter 32cm Crafted by the prestigious Royal Vienna Porcelain Manufactory, this exquisite pair of vases embodies the centuries-old tradition of European porcelain artistry. Designed in an elegant baluster form, each vase features a deep navy ground, providing a striking backdrop for the finely hand-painted historical tableaux. The slender necks are adorned with delicate gilded patterns, further enhanced by ribbon-tied accents and raised gilded jewels, a particularly coveted element in high-quality porcelain. Matching porcelain lids, crowned with a pinecone finial, complete the sophisticated design, while the spreading socle bases mirror the decorative motifs of the necks. The vases depict four significant historical events, masterfully reinterpreted from renowned artworks. One scene illustrates King Charles V liberating Christian slaves in Tunis, inspired by a 19th-century engraving by Nicaise de Keyser (Belgian, 1813-1887). Another portrays the Battle of Bouvines (1214), based on an 1827 painting by Horace Vernet (French, 1789-1863). A third panel brings to life Oliver Cromwell dissolving the Long Parliament, adapted from a 1782 print by Benjamin West (American, 1738-1820). The final scene, inspired by Jan Matejko’s (Polish, 1838-1893) 1866 painting ‘Rejtan’ (also known as ‘The Fall of Poland’), represents the first partition of Poland in 1773. The Austrian porcelain artists have reimagined these compositions with richer, more luminous colours, infusing the scenes with energy while softening their dramatic intensity. Supporting these vases are ornate porcelain plinths, decorated with oval cartouches featuring additional painted vignettes. The undersides of the lids are inscribed with the corresponding scene titles. These include: Der letzte Reichstag zu Warschau (The last parliament in Warsaw), Karl V als Befreier der christlichen Sklaven in Tunis (Charles V as liberator of the Christian slaves in Tunis), Cromwell verhindert die Verfolgung des Waldenser (Cromwell prevents the persecution of the Waldensians), Bataille de Bouvines (Battle of Bouvines). Each piece bears the blue ‘FD/ VIENNA / AUSTRIA’ mark for Franz Dörfl. With their grand proportions, historical depth, and remarkable artistic execution, this pair of vases is an extraordinary acquisition for any collector of fine European porcelain.

Approximate measurements: 13.4 x 11.4 x 15.8 in // 34 x 29 x 40 cm; weight 22.5 lb // 10.2 kg Handmade: Variation is to be expected, each piece differs in color, size, shape and decorations due to its handmade nature and natural pigments. Memòri is about simplicity, imperfections, and embracing the "flaws". Each piece is fired in an open fire - a dug hole during more than 12 hours, which makes unexpected and surprising results, including smoke marks on some pieces. This means that each piece is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. Care instructions: The ceramics are not glazed. We advise you to keep it as a decorative object if you want to conserve the original aspect. About the savoir-faire, the modeled pottery The potters of northern Morocco perpetuate the ancient art of modeled pottery, which first appeared around 6,000 BC. The techniques and patterns used today are very close to those of their origins. This ancestral know-how, which has disappeared around the Mediterranean, still lives in the pre-Rif. Today, these potters are the guardians of this ancient art. The modeled pottery according to the ancestral art...

Geo III Wedgwood and Steel Mounted Amboyna and Ebony Writing Box, c1800
Located in valatie, NY
The hinged rectangular top with three oval Signed Wedgwood plaques depicting putti at various pursuits within oval paterae mounted swagged and beaded borders, opening to a morocco leather lined hinged slope enclosing a well, the upper section fitted with candlesticks and compartmentalized for inkwells, above a hinged lid the front with a spring loaded secret drawer opening to a needle or pincushion and spools of thread. This unusual work box, mounted with blue and white jasperware signed Wedgwood plaques, is English in conception. The writing box was a popular form first used in the 18th c and well into the 19th c for traveling. This type of portable desk was described by the English poet William Cowper in 1785 as 'the most elegant, the compactest, the most commodious desk in the world.' Additionally, the jasperware plaques, came from Josiah Wedgwood's factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Its proximity to the steel manufacturing city of Birmingham, the birthplace of Matthew Boulton, producer of decorative metalwork (including cut steel mounts) and described by his friend and fellow-industrialist, Josiah Wedgwood, as 'the first Manufacturer in England', certainly suggests an English origin and possibly his handwork. However, the polished steel mounts are also typical of furniture and objects made in Tula, Russia, where the Imperial Arms Factory was founded by Peter the Great in the early 18th c and which later became known for its decorative objects, including furniture and domestic pieces. Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, ordered the 'Frog Service...

Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture Grimilde Head by Vanessa Semaino
Located in Milan, IT
The “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field. The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic. “Grimilde” is an artwork that addresses the dilemma of envy within the context of the seven deadly sins, through a representation that merges the wicked characters from fairy tales into a single figure. In it, there are recognizable references to Grimhilde, the witch from “Snow White”, the Queen of Hearts from “Alice in Wonderland,” and Cruella De Vil, all aimed at portraying envy in a world dominated by social media and the constant quest for approval and affirmation. The artwork is named after the evil queen from Snow White, and her figure is made evident by the turban that frames the face, emphasizing its features and wrinkled expression. The dress, with a black and white checkered pattern with red details, evokes that of the Queen of Hearts, as seen in the large red hearts decorating the crown, replacing the traditional acanthus leaves of typical Sicilian Moorish heads...
