Arne Bang Vase Model 124
Located in Valby, 84
Arne Bang vase Model 124 In beautiful green and brown glaze made by Danish Artist Arne Bang in the 1940s. The vase is in good original condition with no cracks or chips in the vase. Arne Bang was trained as a sculptor and created sculptures and decorations in public spaces. Arne Bang has also solved graphic tasks and e.g. designed three Christmas stamps, but it is as a designer of stoneware, silver and pewter that he is known nationally and internationally. As a ceramic designer, Arne Bang was essentially self-taught, but he early on had an openness and curiosity towards different materials as well as a special sense for their many possibilities, which came to characterize his entire multifaceted artistic work. The outlet for his ceramic production was his training as a sculptor and his skills for modeling and shaping. When Bang established Holmegaard Stentøj (1929), the goal was to create quality ceramics that collectors would want to own, but at a price so that a larger audience could acquire it. This succeeded so well that the stoneware was popularly referred to as 'Gaven'. Ironically, today Bang's ceramics are sought after by collectors worldwide. The decorative bulging ribs or tighter grooves are characteristic of Bang's organic and sculptural stoneware. He designed vases, jars, dishes, bowls, mugs and lamp holders with a focus on a sculptural expression. The basic geometric shapes are laid out, but softened by the fine glazes and with decorative variations such as attached figures. Statuettes as well as small and large sculptures were also a natural part of Bang's ceramic production. Early highlights include The Tycho Brahe vase (1927) made together with Carl Halier for the Copenhagen Observatory in the Botanical Garden, the Elephant (1930) and the Ball vase (1937) for King Christian X...

China Export Victorian 1900 Large Bombe Baluster Carved Vase in Red Cinnabar
Located in Miami, FL
Large Chinese Carved Cinnabar Vase with brass lining. Very nice antique Chinese export vase, created during the Victorian era (1838-1901), back in the 1900. It is finely carved with a bombe baluster shape in vivid red cinnabar and depicts five villages scenes of landscapes with gardens, wooden houses, scholars and peoples dressed with elaborated long ropes. All this scenes are framed, inside a border designed with geometric patterns and symbols. Fully decorated with geometric symbols, flowers and squared lines, mounted with brass linings on the top and the base. Measurements: Height 18.75 Inches (47.63 Cm). Diameter 9.85 Inches (25 Cm). Cinnabar in its original form, cinnabar is crystallized red mercuric sulphide (HgS), the main ore bearing mercury. Cinnabar has been used for thousands of years as a coloring agent because of its intense red-orange color. Carved lacquer, which is predominantly red, is often known as "cinnabar" lacquer, a reference to the use of this powdered mercury sulphide as the primary colorant.Lacquer is the resin (or sap) of a family of trees (rhus verniciflua) found throughout southern China. It is an amazing material that hardens when exposed to oxygen and becomes a natural plastic that is resistant to water and can withstand heat and certain acids People suffering from blood diseases should consider the regular use of Cinnabar Stone...

Antique and Vintage Vases for Sale

Whether it’s a Chinese Han dynasty glazed ceramic wine vessel, a work of Murano glass or a hand-painted Scandinavian modern stoneware piece, a fine vase brings a piece of history into your space as much as it adds a sophisticated dynamic.

Like sculptures or paintings, antique and vintage vases are considered works of fine art. Once offered as tributes to ancient rulers, vases continue to be gifted to heads of state today. Over time, decorative porcelain vases have become family heirlooms to be displayed prominently in our homes — loved pieces treasured from generation to generation.

The functional value of vases is well known. They were traditionally utilized as vessels for carrying dry goods or liquids, so some have handles and feature an opening at the top (where they flare back out). While artists have explored wildly sculptural alternatives over time, the most conventional vase shape is characterized by a bulbous base and a body with shoulders where the form curves inward.

Owing to their intrinsic functionality, vases are quite possibly versatile in ways few other art forms can match. They’re typically taller than they are wide. Some have a neck that offers height and is ideal for the stems of cut flowers. To pair with your mid-century modern decor, the right vase will be an elegant receptacle for leafy snake plants on your teak dining table, or, in the case of welcoming guests on your doorstep, a large ceramic floor vase for long tree branches or sticks — perhaps one crafted in the Art Nouveau style — works wonders.

Interior designers include vases of every type, size and style in their projects — be the canvas indoors or outdoors — often introducing a splash of color and a range of textures to an entryway or merely calling attention to nature’s asymmetries by bringing more organically shaped decorative objects into a home.

On 1stDibs, you can browse our collection of vases by material, including ceramic, glass, porcelain and more. Sizes range from tiny bud vases to massive statement pieces and every size in between.
