Alvar Aalto Savoy Vase 20th Century Finnish Design

About the Item

This Iittala Aalto Opal White Maljakko vase is a Finnish classic designed in 1936 by Alvar Aalto. Each vase is handmade by the expert glass blowers at the Iittala glass factory. The Aalto vase by Iittala is known as a classic of Finnish design and glass art, fascinating with its organic and ambiguous form. The manufacturing technique follows the original method; The vase is mouth-blown into a wooden mold. This gives the vase a softer shape due to the characteristic design. The iconic design is inspired by the Finnish landscape of his youth and is both functional and sculptural. The vase has the original sticker and is signed on the bottom. • It takes no less than 7 expert craftsmen, 12 production stages, 1100 degrees Celsius and 30 hours to guide an Aalto vase through all production steps.
