About the Item

An excellent and rare Meissen group of the seasons with large figures: Four amoretti wrapped in cloths grouped on a rock, representing the four seasons: a female amoretto as spring with flowers in her hair and a wreath of flowers in her left hand, holding a little bird in her right, embraced by summer, who is sitting next to her and presenting golden ears of corn, the putto of autumn standing behind them with a crown of grapes, holding up a full, tilted wine glass, sitting next to him is winter, wrapped in a fur-lined cloth, reading a book by the light of a burning oil lamp. On a round, arched meadow pedestal with rococo decoration highlighted in gold. Designer: ERNST AUGUST LEUTERITZ (1818-1893) studied at the academy in Dresden, was a sculptor and from 1849 to 1886 he held the position of head of design at the Meissen porcelain manufactory, and in 1882 he became professor. He worked on vessel shapes and figures from the 18th century and designed vases, centerpieces and candlesticks in the styles of Rococo and Classicism. Design of model K 125 circa 1876-1877.
