'Gambo d’Oro’ (Stem of Gold) is a unique centrepiece by the British artists, Anthony Scala and Liam Reeves.
With very differing practices, Scala and Reeves have collaborated to create works that are a unique result of their combined skills. Paying homage to Venetian glass, their choice of the soft milky white, opaline colour, is a direct reference to one of the most traditional palettes used.
Beginning with free-blown elements created by Reeves, an authority on the history of Venetian glass & techniques, the final precise construction is undertaken by Scala. Elegant and refined, the hollow stem is filled with lustrous silver leaf, accentuating the undulating form.

With a career in glass now spanning over 20 years, Scala creates art works that can only be described as acts of precision. As equally beautiful as they are meticulously created and despite being a hugely skilled glass blower, it is with cold working that Scala excels.
Initially qualified as an architectural model maker, it was during this time that Scala learnt many disciplines that would be equally relevant to and ultimately inform his practice today. His passion for glass was discovered however during an apprenticeship with Peter Layton at his studio at London Glassblowing. The beginning of a long standing association for him with this acclaimed studio.
In 2005 at the age of 27, Scala won the prestigious 'Glass Sellers Award' (other recipients have included Alison Kinnard, Colin Reid, Richard Jackson, and Bob Crooks...

This special object consists of several parts. The main serving bowl is mounted on a base and decorated with checked décor and edge ruffles, the color changes from rose to dark pink. In 2021 Milla Vaahtera started a series of unique sculptural and blown glass serving objects. These objects are useful as serving or as vases, but most importantly they are sculptures. Milla Vaahtera is beginning a new series rethinking the objects of home as sculptures.
Glassblowers: Paula Pääkkönen, Sani Lappalainen, Otto Koivuranta, Jukka Viuha, Penna Tornberg and many other glassblowers from Nuutajärvi.
Vaahtera began to work on this series in May 2017 together with glassblowers Paula Pääkkönen, Sani Lappalainen, Pauli Vähäsarja, Henni Eliala and Jonas Paajanen of Nuutajärvi. The metal parts were prepared by silversmith Kirsi Kokkonen together with Milla Vaahtera. The method was based on dialogue with the glass artists, improvisation and intuition.
The ethereal pieces are a revival of the mobile tradition that emerged in the 1930s.The heavy glass parts and the delicate brass seek a balance with each other, thus creating tensions within the works.
Milla Vaahtera (born 1981) is a designer and an artist working in Helsinki. The themes of her works extend from body image and sexuality to intuition and dialogues in the creative progress. Vaahtera has graduated as a Master of Arts in 2010 from Aalto University, the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She did her BA studies in Lahti Institute of Design in 2008. Signed Formia Murano. One of three in similar decor, the round vase has been chosen to be displayed at the Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse in the interior designed by Daria Demin of Circa 22 Design Studio.
