Tiffany Studios 'Cobra’ Candlestick Bronze Favrile Glass 'Pulled Feather' Shade

About the Item

Tiffany Studios ‘Cobra’ Candlestick made of Bronze with Tiffany Iridescent Favrile Glass ‘Pulled Feather’ Shade circa 1905-1910. Iconic example of legendary Tiffany design and craftsmanship this Tiffany Studios ‘Cobra’ Candlestick incorporates a deep rich bronze base with delicate white iridescent glass that has a green ‘Pulled Feather’ motif and a glass candle holder to match the shade. Three bronze ball headed screws hold the shade in place. The ‘Favrile’ Glass Shade is engraved with “L.C.T.” The bronze base is imprinted with “Tiffany Studios New York”, the numbers 11477 and 1203, and the monogram. The ‘Cobra’ Candlestick is 12 1/2 inches high and 4 3/4 inches wide and 6 1/4 inches deep. Condition is excellent with no restoration or repair. Tiffany founded the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company in 1892 and located the Tiffany Furnaces which developed and produced his unique method of glass making in Corona, Queens, New York. It was managed by English immigrant Arthur Nash who was already a skilled glassmaker. After much experimentation and development, Tiffany received the patent for Favrile glass in 1894. Inspired by early Roman and Syrian glass he made the first Favrile objects in 1896. Tiffany's Favrile glass won the grand prize in the international 1900 Paris Exposition. In addition Tiffany Studios produced an extraordinary line of fine bronze and silver decorative items, jewelry, lamp shades and legendary stained glass windows.
