About the Item

18th Century Meissen cups and Saucers This set consists of 9 cups and 9 saucers of Meissen porcelain. A high quality porcelain produced in the city of Meissen, Germany. It is known for its exquisite craftsmanship, intricate designs and historical significance as one of the first European attempts to recreate Chinese porcelain. This set has several different images in Sepia color in double-lined rectangular shape. The images are all of different landscapes with houses, trees, columns, bridges and one with a person. Each saucer and cup has a gold painted rim (some have fading) Meissen porcelain was first developed in the early 18th century by Johann Friedrich Böttger and Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus, who were trying to discover the secret of making real porcelain, which was highly prized and imported from China at the time. In 1710, they succeeded in creating a hard paste porcelain formula and the Meissen Porcelain Factory was founded. The cups and saucers has their Meissen hall marks Crossed blue swords with star, used from 1774. The measurements of the saucers are 3 cm high and 13 cm diagonal. The cups are 4.5 cm high, 9.5 cm wide and the diagonal is 7.5 cm. The set shows traces of use The total weight is 2200 grams
