Fine Victorian Minton Moon Flask c.1890

About the Item

Victorian Hand-Painted Porcelain Portrait Moon Flask Vase, Signed Boiston, England, circa 1890 A fine quality late 19th-century English porcelain moon flask vase, likely by Minton or a comparable manufacturer, distinguished by its superb hand-painted decoration and elegant neoclassical form. The front is exquisitely painted with a detailed portrait of a noblewoman in period dress, adorned in a richly feathered hat, pearl choker and gold locket chain. The painting is signed by the artist Boiston, known for his refined porcelain portraiture of the era. The reverse features intricate raised gilt foliate ornament in the Aesthetic style. This sculptural piece stands on four stylised gilt shell-form feet, with angular twin handles and a gilt-rimmed neck, enhancing its decorative presence. Unmarked to the base, as often with decorator-signed works retailed outside the factory system. Condition: Very good overall. Some age-related discolouration to stable cracks at the rim, visible in close-up but structurally sound. Gilding remains bright; the portrait retains excellent colour and clarity. No signs of restoration. Dimensions: Height: 23.5 cm (9.25 in) Width: 19 cm (7.5 in) Depth: 7 cm (2.75 in) Origin: England Date: Circa 1890 Medium: Porcelain, enamel, gilt
