Meissen Art Nouveau Figure Of A Snake Dancer By Max Bochmann Circa 1914

About the Item

Very rare and extremely decorative full-sculptural depiction of a young dancer in oriental-looking costume, bare-breasted, with long, softly falling skirt slit high at the front and elaborate gold- and coral-coloured headdress on her shoulder-length, full hair, posing with her upper body stretched backwards and grasping the end of the snake with her right hand next to her head, which is slightly tilted to the left, and holding its head firmly with her left hand stretched forward and looking into its eyes. On a white oval base with lilac painting and gold decoration on the top. Modeller: MAX BOCHMANN (1874 - 1942) German porcelain modeller and sculptor; studied at the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts. From 1911 to 1929 he worked for the Meissener Manufaktur, where he first became an employee of Erich Hösel. The modeller specialized in the design of figure groups, furthermore especially in children and animal figures.
