20th Century, Gio Ponti Lino Sabattini Sculpture Horse in Silver Metal End '70s

About the Item

Statue in silver metal designed by the Maestro Gio Ponti and produced for Lino Sabattini since the end of '70s. The sculpture is in silver metal and represents a horse. This example still has its own original box. Starting with that first copy of "Domus" found by sheer chance in the lonely village of Blevio, Sabattini got as far as the Master and fouder of "Domus" himself, whom he often visited in the enormus builiding-yard of the Pirelli building opposite Milan's Central Station. And it was while standing on the beams of the Pirelli framework that Sabattini, admiring the structural pyramid of the skycraper, remarked to Ponti, "I would stop here." "So would I"-replied Ponti-"if I had Pirelli's money." Lino Sabattini often mentions his very first encounter with Gio' Ponti, and loves to remember these words from "his master." "Never fool yourself, always be who you are, anytime. And don't be afraid to make a mistake, because errors are necessary and teach you something new everytime." A long-lasting collaboration and a huge friendship: from the exagonal tray "Architettura" to "Flèche" cutlery, to the "Stivale" vase ... to the masks, there are a lot of shapes born in Ponti's mind and turned into real items thanks to Sabattini's prototypes.
