About the Item
Handcrafted and truly impressive Neo-Gothic Church fixture that can also be used for candles.
Over the decades we have sold a number of very good antique bronze, Gothic light fixtures for both candles and electrical bulbs. However, we never offered one as high and with as many Gothic details as this hand-crafted chandelier. You will rarely come across a Gothic work of religious art that is more elaborate and with as many Gothic details as this fit-for-a-castle pendant from the late 1800s. The chimeras, the demons, the Medieval figurines, the stylized quatrefoil elements and especially the gilt bronze phoenix bird on top (symbolizing Christ and His resurrection) obviously are the Gothic / Medieval symbols that give deeper meaning to this work of religious art. No maker in this day and age is prepared to first carve or sculpt all the individual and detailed elements of such a figural chandelier before having to cast them all in bronze. Never mind the polishing, the hand-drilling of screwthreads and putting all the individual pieces together. It would nowadays make this meaningful and ornate work of lighting art much too expensive. If required we can and will (at no extra expense) also provide a replacement chain and canopy of the period. They will be in excellent condition as well and together they make this majestic and practical to use chandelier an absolute joy to own and look at. You can either use this entirely gilt chandelier in the true Medieval style with candles in it, but we can also completely rewire it to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage in your home, church or monastery. We will do so at no extra expense and for our American clients we will even attach American sockets (at no extra expense either).

The French antique piece dates back to the 19th century and sports a spiraling fluted crown at top. A detailed floriate design with grape vines fills the bronze d’ore above the winged gargoyles at bottom.
