Thomas Newman Studio, "Novios", Floor Lamp
By Thomas Newman
Located in Los Angeles, CA
The Spanish word Novios translates broadly as “a couple.” In the natural world, a coupling of one plus one often seems to add up to more than two. Beyond the obvious romantic meaning, we witness in nature numerous examples of an attraction which joins individuals together in a common purpose for a larger good. As such, coupling is a life-giving force that is basic to the wondrous complexity and beauty of our natural environment. The Novios lamp is an organically inspired, abstract symbol...

Customizable 5-Globe Flush-Mount Chandelier in Powder-Coated or Plated Steel
By ASTRAEUS CLARKE
Located in Brooklyn, NY
The scalloped design of the Lenox series is a sophisticated and modern take on Art Nouveau. The metal tube bends around the shape of the globe light, creating a flow of movement and synchrony between the two parts. The fixture is completely customizable in finish, layout, and color — it can be made with 3, 5, 20, or as many globes as you want, scaling it up to any size. The steel can be finished in a standard RAL color powder-coat (no charge), a custom-matched color powder-coat ($400 surcharge), polished-nickel or polished-brass plating ($4,200 surcharge), or a metal patina ($2,350 surcharge, color options shown in images). All surcharges are discounted 10% for trade accounts...

Pair of Tiffany Studios New York "Globe" Glass and Bronze Chandeliers
By Louis Comfort Tiffany, Tiffany Studios
Located in New York, NY
This enchanting pair of Tiffany Studios New York "hanging globe" chandeliers are composed of two reticulated glass shades. Tiffany’s idea of blowing glass through openwork bronze had evolved in the 1890s with a series of Byzantine revival fuel lamps. The technique was popularized by 19th-century Muranese Glassmakers Salvati as a derivation of the Ancient Roman cage cup (vasa diatreta). In the 4th century, Roman glassmakers encased blown glass vessels in a delicate cage of glass. In Tiffany’s version, glass is blown through an ogival pattern cage. Originating in 11th-century Byzantine textiles, the ogival pattern became established in Italy, Ottoman Turkey, North Africa, and as far west as the Balkans. Product Details: Item #: L-20851 Artist: Tiffany Studios New York Country: United States Circa: 1900 Dimensions: 7.5” length, 18" length (with chain) Materials: Favrile Glass, bronze Literature: A similar example is pictured in Tiffany Lamps and Metalware by Alastair Duncan, pg 290, illustration number 135.
