Contemporary Ridge Lamp with Geometric Oak Base and linen Shade
By Louis Jobst
Located in London, GB
Expressing mass and material quality are common threads found in Jobst’s iconic collection. The Ridge Lamps create striking silhouettes that echo early 20th century design and sculpture. The geometric form of the oak base is contrasted with a smooth face and a ridged textured surface. The oak has been ebonised using a technique that reacts with the tannin in the oak creating the dark surface. The refined element of the oak is contrasted by the solid limestone block...

Contemporary Glass Lamp: Semazen Crystal Hanging Pendant Light Brown
Located in Ulcombe, Kent
This new lighting collection is cast in optic crystal and inspired by A.M. radio waves and whirling motions of Sufi dancers. The dynamic between the inner and outer form encourages viewers to look both through and at the surface of the glass with its waves and striations of colour. The pieces are made using an ancient glass casting technique called core casting. The colour way of each suspended light is unique due to the nature of the movement of glass within the cast mould. Lit by a micro LED marker contained within the bronze mount the light sparkles through hundreds of tiny bubbles creating a glowing ambience that is reflected from within by the delicate textures and waves of the core. When viewed together, each group of pendants creates a story of alchemy, texture, and energy that can harmonize with their setting whether it be austere or luxurious. Each piece is cast in the studio of Max Jacquard Glass on the Greensand Way in Kent, England. Max's experience in cast glass spans the length of 30 years and he is known for his innovative and tasteful approach to cast glass that is based in historical methods and contemporary practice. Core cast in Optical Lead Crystal with Bronze mount, hand polished. Dimensions: Semazen Pendant: 400mm height x 110mm diameter. Weight 2.7kg Colours are customizable. Shown here from left to right: Topaz/Brown Brown/Amber black Amethyst/Aquamarine Rose/Topaz with Copper dusting interior Brown/Topaz with Gold...

Dublin Lanterns Solid Bronze Copper Domes Holophane Dual Glass Shades c1930s
Located in Chicago, IL
Dublin Lanterns in Bronze with Copper Domes and Holophane Dual Glass Shades c1938 (4) Available. Old Plank has been importing from Ireland since 1992 and these (4) Dublin Holophane Bronze and Copper Lanterns must be one of our all-time favorite discoveries. Not only are the Dublin Lanterns beautiful, but their build quality is insane for they are more like precision works of art, than commercial lighting. The exterior glass is both frosted and ribbed, while the interior has a double Holophane inner and outer shade, which we have never seen prior. To us, it is obvious that there was no budget in mind when these were designed in the 1930s, for it would have been difficult to make them more expensive to produce. Whomever the manufacturer was and there are some experts who think it was Bleeco, on St Martin’s Place, which was founded in 1921 in Brighton by Ernest Heaps, who remained its managing director until 1961 when the firm was purchased by Haven Foundries. While others thought they were French produced. The fact that the interiors of the lanterns have the Dual-wall English Holophane shades, I would tend to lean towards Bleeco. The Bronze and Copper Lanterns were installed in the city of Dublin in 1938 by Mr F. X. Algar, who was then head of the Lighting Section of the Irish Electricity Supply Board. Originally these lanterns lit O'Connell Street mounted on beautiful double armed art deco concrete...
