About the Item

Ø cm 23 h cm 21 Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004) was an important Italian architect and designer, considered a key figure in the Italian design movement between the late 1950s and 1960s. He graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1953 and later worked in the studio of his mentor, Gio Ponti, before opening his own studio in Milan. Frattini's work ranged between industrial design and architecture, with a focus on interiors. He co-founded the ADI (Association for Industrial Design) in 1956. He collaborated with many renowned companies, including Cassina, Bernini, Arteluce, Acerbis, Fantoni, Luci, Knoll, Lema, and, of course, Artemide. His designs often displayed a mix of functionality, aesthetics and high quality craftsmanship, with a notable predilection for woodworking. Artemide is a renowned Italian lighting manufacturer, celebrated worldwide for its design-oriented approach and commitment to innovation. Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza, the company is based in Pregnana Milanese, in the province of Milan. Artemide operates according to "The Human Light" philosophy, which emphasizes the relationship between light, humans and the environment. This includes a focus on sustainable design, energy efficiency, and products that offer advanced forms of interaction between users and light. Among his most iconic and award-winning products are the Eclisse, Ptolemy, Nessus and Pipe lamps. Artemide is known for its collaboration with leading international designers and architects. His products are often considered design masterpieces and are in the permanent collections of major museums of modern art and design around the world, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The company has won numerous prestigious awards, including several Compasso d'Oro. Artemide operates through 18 subsidiaries and has a strong global distribution network, with 14 single-brand showrooms in major cities and products distributed in 107 countries.
