Lavinia Table Lamp Masayuki Kurokawa Artemide 1988

About the Item

Masayuki Kurokawa designed the Lavinia table lamp with an adjustable construction in white grainy cast and enameled aluminium for Artemide, Milan, 1988. Good original vintage condition. The Lavinia table lamp is an organic sculptural lamp that could be a building in itself. We imagine it being built in front of us with the same proportions but in a different volume. Strongly influenced by the traditional Japan in which he grew up, Kurokawa created his architecture studio, now renamed K&K, which for the past 50 years has instilled the same quest for aesthetics and simplicity always in resonance with the natural environment. Several of his pieces, including the Lavinia, are conserved at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

This Cobra table lamp, designed by Japanese designer Msayuki Kurokawa in the 1970s, is in very good condition. The flexible, yellow rubberized arm with a ribbed structure gives the lamp its name. The rubberized arm, with the base part in which the switch is located, is in very good condition. The black lacquered metal base shows minimal signs of wear, as does the metal shade. This lamp was designed by Kurokawa in the futuristic space age design typical of the time and reflects the direction in which design has developed, not only in Japan. The German lamp...
