Antique Four Poster Bed

A fine late 18th Century large Dutch four-poster bed with exceptional posts and ealy 19th century Italian carved giltwood swans.
The posts with well carved elements: neoclassical urns, capitals, carved turnings and vase sections; their most attractive part is the boxwood and mahogany lined inlay which we haven't seen on English 18th beds.
In addition, unusally, the rails are designed to be seen and made in mahogany and framed with carved and plain astragal beads.
Good sturdy construction, fixed together with steel bolts and will dismantle for shipping.
Needs new drapery hangings and the white fabric around the end posts & headboard should be cleaned or replaced. For the new mattress, we would recommend a box spring mattress with a well (height is saved with part of the box mattress fitting between the rails) and a second mattress on top. But you could also fit lathes and just have the top mattress with cut out corners to fit around the posts: norris bedding custom make such mattresses.
This bed originally had fabric around the top but for an additional cost we could make a wooden cornice...

This is one of the finest beds of this type I have ever seen, it is ornately hand carved all over, made with solid panels of flamed mahogany, it is stunning! The bed is a current UK double so takes a 137cm wide mattress
Condition wise we have deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished the frame from top to bottom, it may have some very light patina marks here from transport, to my eyes and hands it looks exquisite

Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

We can arrange delivery nationwide, mostly with our nominated couriers, for Europe we use one reasonably priced professional company that we trust, for the rest of the world we use international shippers that can send any size item crated via air freight within 7-14 days after crating or soft packed and container shipped via sea freight within 30-60 days. The time frames outlined are guides only, non-domestic shipping is almost entirely governed by the airlines, sea freight loading times and custom clearances.
Whomever delivers will always require help on the larger items to unload, the price you will be quoted will always be based on this assumption, if this is not possible, please let us know as it will affect the price to send a two-person team.

Beds and bed frames have long been an important part of the sanctuary that is the bedroom. For the upper class in countries such as England, the massive, costly beds of the 16th and 17th centuries were decorative and of the poster variety.
