By Cutler & Girard
Located in New York, NY
An Italian folding screen in the Liberty Style (the Italian equivalent of Art Nouveau) by the Florentine furniture makers Girard & Cutler who earned the Gold Medal during the Turin Exposition of 1902. The piece is in carved maple, walnut, mahogany, and satinwood with carved floral arches above an inlaid nautical scene and is signed in inlaid monogram. This screen is a prime example of the influence of the Japanese taste that was so fashionable in Western Europe in the second half of the nineteenth century and served as a launching pad for skilled merchants, such as Siegfried Bing in Paris and more notably Arthur Lasenby Liberty...

Fine Pair of George III Mahogany Wine Cisterns Attributed to Gillows
Located in Lymington, Hampshire
Each cistern is in the form of a fluted vase on a rectangular pedestal. The lead-lined vases have brass handles, removable lids with pineapple finials and taps. The crossbanded pedestals have cupboard doors enclosing slatted shelves for warming plates in one and a lead-lined slops drawers, a tambour fronted shelf and a cellaret in the other. Susan Stuart, 'Gillow of Lancaster and London', 2008 vol 1 p308-315 illustrates many pedestal urns including the drawings for Workington Hall, Cumbria, dated 1788. PLates 342 and 343 show pedestals with a similar arrangement of shelves and drawers. Thomas Sheraton explained the functions of dining room pedestals in his 'Drawing Book' of 1793: 'IN spacious dining rooms the sideboards are often made without drawers of any sort, having simply a rail, a little ornament...

Anglo-Indian 19th Century Two-Toned Geometric Front Mahogany Coffer on Base
Located in Atlanta, GA
An Anglo-Indian geometric front mahogany coffer on base from the 19th century, with lift top, carved panels, two drawers, cabriole legs and lateral handles. Hand-crafted during the 19th century, this Anglo-Indian mahogany coffer features a rectangular lid with twisted accents on the edges, that lifts up to reveal a dark interior convenient to store blankets and linen. It is the two-toned façade however, which attracts our attention with its geometric décor flanked with studs in the upper section. The center is occupied by ornate hardware while the lower part is made of two drawers. Their dovetail construction reveals the piece's age. The sides present C-scroll handles allowing the piece to be moved more easily, this item was therefore a travelling piece. The ensemble is raised on four cabriole legs on trifid feet. With its two toned finish and skillfully carved geometric décor, this Anglo-Indian coffer...
