A brand new screen by Allen Jones exclusively for Paradisoterrestre in a limited edition of 30 signed and numbered pieces (+2AP).
The legendary British pop artist – part of whose work evolves around the female figure – conceives this piece of furniture as a canvas, enriching it with suggestions drawing on the imagery of fetishism. The screen encompasses the drawing, reproduced in silk-screen printing, of a décolleté surrounded by a cloud, an actualization of a lithograph part of the Shoe Box collection created by Jones himself in 1968.
The screen structure was designed by Japanese architect Kazuhide Takahama for Dino Gavina in the 1970s: five wooden panels joined by a patented rubber hinge system.
Presented for the first time at ADI Design Museum Compasso d’Oro (Milan, IT) on the occasion of the exhibition "La casa nella casa - tribute to Dino Gavina" during Milano Design Week 2022.

Allen Jones
British Pop artist Allen Jones is no stranger to controversy. In 1970, his group of erotic life-sized fiberglass sculptures Hatstand, Table and Chair — sexually suggestive hyperrealistic models of women transformed into pieces of furniture — made headlines, provoked outrage and was met with intense scrutiny by art critics. Despite the condemnation — or perhaps partly owing to it — his work has sold for millions of dollars at auction, and while Jones’s figurative paintings, prints and sculptures have courted negative publicity, there is no question that his work is provocative and coveted by some collectors.
Born in Southampton in 1937, Jones attended the Royal College of Art alongside classmates R. B. Kitaj and David Hockney. While the school expelled Jones after one year, his work was included in the “Young Contemporaries” exhibition of 1961 — regarded as the birth of the British Pop art movement. Then, in 1963, Jones won the Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the Paris Biennale.
After moving to New York in 1964, Jones began experimenting with sexual imagery and erotic figures. He endeavored to explore complex relationships between men and women, and placed a specific focus on the female form in his nude sculptures and abstract paintings. While the era gave way to works by Jones that were especially sexually charged, his body of work also came to include colorful lithographic prints that drew on fashion design and cabaret.
Jones’s works have been exhibited extensively throughout the U.K., Europe and elsewhere around the world, including shows in London, Zurich, Lisbon, Hong Kong, Shanghai and St. Louis. In 2015, the Royal College of Art staged a large retrospective of his work. Jones’s pieces are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate, the National Portrait Gallery and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Paradisoterrestre
Historic Italian design brand Paradisoterrestre was conceived in the late Seventies by eclectic and subversive Dino Gavina (1922 – 2007) and relaunched in 2017 by Gherardo Tonelli. In its new course Paradisoterrestre presents a catalogue ranging ranging from re-editions of historical pieces - designed among the others by Roberto Matta, Kazuhide Takahama and Man Ray - to new collections in collaboration with designers and artists such as Pierre Gonalons, Tobia Scarpa, Paola Pivi and Allen Jones. Paradisoterrestre offers also a curated selection of vintage collectible design and artworks realized by great masters among which Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella, Vico Magistretti, Enzo Mari, Carlo Scarpa, Tobia Scarpa, Kazuhide Takahama, Augusto Betti, Alberto Biasi, Roberto Matta, ... In an early commercial commission, renowned British Pop Artist Allen Jones was asked to design the publicity poster for the 1976 US release of Barbet Schroeder’s 1973 fetish romance 'Maîtresse,' starring a young Gerard Depardieu as the small time crook who stumbles into the double-life of a dominatrix, played by Bulle Ogier. Werner Gallery, who exhibited Jones' original artwork in 2016, stated that 'despite his inability to Identify with its explicit sadomasochistic themes, Jones accepted the poster commission based on his fondness for the powerfully stylized heroine of the film.' Jones' original design, with the high-heeled, leather-clad brunette with bull whip in hand, proved too risqué for the distributor, so the figure was reworked into a blonde beauty gripping a pair of keys instead of the more provocative whip.
