Golf Print, St Andrews Royal and Ancient Golf Club
Located in Oxfordshire, GB
1967 Alcan Golfer of the Year Championship By Arthur Weaver. A colourful golf lithograph signed by the artist, Arthur Weaver, of the 18th green at St Andrews. The picture depicting Gay Brewer putting on the 18th green at St Andrews (Royal and Ancient Golf Club) in the 1967 Alcan Tournament. Gay Brewer beat Bill Casper by four strokes in a playoff to earn the biggest jackpot ever given to a tournament winner at that time. Title of the print, 18th Green, Royal & Ancient, Alcan Tournament, October 1967, Winner Gay Brewer, U.S.A. 'Putting'. Published in 1968 by Frost & Reed Limited of Bristol and London, England. Copyright in all countries, including the U.S.A. Foreign. Image size, H. 51 cm W. 64 cm Size with border, H. 59 cm W. 70 cm The Alcan Golfer of the Year Championship, also known as the Alcan Open, was an international golf tournament played from 1967 to 1970. It was sponsored by Alcan Aluminum Ltd. of Canada, a long-time corporate sponsor of professional golf on international circuits. The tournament was dreamed up by a Montreal magazine publisher named Hilles Pickens and a Montreal radio broadcaster named Doug Smith. The idea was to use four tournaments in the U.S. and four in Great Britain to qualify for a tournament at St Andrews. They sold the idea to Aluminium Ltd. of Canada, which was at the time changing its name to Alcan. Alcan thought the tournament would be a fine way to promote the new title with both the public and big buyers all over the world. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus had qualified to play in the tournament but sent their regrets, as did top U.S. money winners Dan Sikes and Julius Boros. For big-name attractions the tournament had to rely on Casper, Brewer and Doug Sanders. Casper and Brewer played fine golf at the windy St Andrews course and after three rounds they were tied with England's 22-year-old Brian Barnes, at four under par. On Sunday Barnes fell back and come the 18th hole Casper and Brewer were tied at 283. The playoff was played on the Monday over the full 18 holes. St Andrews "The Home of Golf" is on the Fife Coast of eastern Scotland and is considered the oldest and most iconic golf course in the world. The Old Course is 6721 yards with a par of 72. It is famous for the 'Swilcan Bridge' spanning the first and 18th holes and 'Hell Bunker'. Everyone who plays the 18th hole walks over the 700-year-old bridge, with it featuring in many iconic pictures of St Andrews. The Old Course remains a public golf course, open to all and apart from the clubhouse for the Royal and Ancient, there are clubhouses overlooking the links for The St Andrews Golf Club...

Set Dozen Wedgwood Creamware Dinner Dishes Made England 1904
By Wedgwood
Located in Katonah, NY
Made in 1904, the border design on this set of Wedgwood dinner dishes was inspired by designs in Josiah Wedgwood's mid-18th century First Pattern Book. The red berries and beige leaves on the vine combine perfectly with the creamy color of the creamware plate. The result is a subtle beauty. The underside of the dishes has an impressed mark for Wedgwood and "W G" for August 1904. Dimensions: diameter 9.25" x .75" height Condition: Excellent Price: $1120 Background of Early 20th Century Wedgwood: In the late 19th century, Wedgwood designs were mostly influenced by the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements. H & R Daniel Rectangular Dish, Shrewsbury Shape, Red Dahlia, Regency ca 1827
By H&R Daniel
Located in London, GB
This is a stunning serving dish made by H&R Daniel in about 1827. It is made in the popular Shrewsbury shape and has a beautiful red dahlia in the centre. This dish would have belonged to a large dessert service. We have several items of this service for sale, please see second picture and separate listings. The H & R Daniel porcelain factory was founded by Henry Daniel, son of a family of master colour makers. He headed up the decoration department in the famous Spode factory where he oversaw all the beautiful early Spode decorations. In 1822 he opened his own factory with his son Richard, creating a truly iconic body of work with the most subtle colours and beautifully painted flowers and landscapes. The Daniel factory was the last true cottage industry among the English potteries, resisting the increase of industrialisation and mass production. This resulted in extraordinary and unrivalled quality, but it probably also led to the factory having to close its doors in 1846 because it could no longer compete with others who did modernise. Daniel porcelain can be hard to identify as the factory was only around for about two decades, and Daniel items have therefore become true collectors' items. This dish is potted in the Shrewsbury Shape, which was first designed in 1826 for the Earl of Shrewsbury...

Original 1890’s Linen Backed Theatrical Stage Poster Holden's Mannikins
Located in Hamilton, Ontario
Very rare late 19th Century, "The Original Holden's Mannikins", original vintage theatrical Vaudeville play linen backed one-sheet movie poster (one sheet; measures 28" x 42", actual poster size 27" x 41". Early Vaudeville Marionette, Automata and Mannequin poster with vibrant colors, another one can't be found. The playbill poster features vibrant illustrations of Clowns, Skeletons, Royalty, Cowboys, Mimes, Nurses, Fairies... This poster has an address for a theatre in St. Martin Paris, France. From the book; The Holdens: Monarchs of the Marionette Theatre by John McCormick The Holden family were the most celebrated English marionette performers of the nineteenth century. The trajectory of the Holdens provides a vivid example of developments in entertainment across the century. Having begun on the fairgrounds, they moved on to large halls, theatres and music halls. At the height of their popularity, when they had two main companies in operation, the Holdens were even better known abroad than at home. Their name was almost synonymous with puppetry, and they were credited with every innovation in marionette theatre. Then, with the advent of cinema, their business suffered a rapid decline. Based on extensive archival research and lavishly illustrated with photographs, sketches, diagrams, playbills and posters, The Holdens: Monarchs of the Marionette Theatre explains why the Holden shows had such impact and were so frequently imitated. Below are two newspaper reviews from 1903 and 1907. Holdin’s Mannkins Location: New York City Theater: New York Date: 1903 Type: Marionette, Automata and Manikin This is another of Mr. Keith’s acts and it is safe to say that we have never seen marionettes in this country before. The general fitting up of the act is great—had a fine stage with a full set of scenery, and everything is first class order—strongly, and it is hardly possible to conceive how people can produce the effects that they do by the manipulation of strings. Every move made by these little figures is absolutely natural and life-like, and the audience were quick to appreciate this fact and were most hearty in their applause. The act is closed with a transformation feature which was very pretty and attractive. It is an exceptionally strong turn throughout. 24 minutes, full stage. Source: University of Iowa, Keith-Albee Vaudeville Collection, Manager Reports, 2 September 1902-3 September 1903. Holden’s Manikins Location: Philadelphia Theater: Keith's Date: 1907 Type: Marionette, Automata and Manikin 22 min, F.S., 2 shows. On at 8:04. This is a children’s feature. I doubt whether it would be so well received at any other than about Christmas time, but it quite won the house. The manikins performs various simple stunts, such as dancing, Punch and Judy comedy, etc. The finish of the act was a spectacular feature without moving figures, which did not run as smoothly as it should have done. However, the act will certainly please the little folks and it cannot be conceived how the wooden manikins can be manipulated so life-like. Holden got a good hand on his appearance after the act...

Large Oval Coade Stone Patera
By Elizabeth Coade
Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire
In classic architecture, a large patera (or paterae plural) like this would have once embellished a frieze or wall of a prominent building or house. This oval patera is a beautiful example of 18th century architecture, showcasing ornate details of the period. It is made in Coade stone, a famous and innovative material of its time, developed by industry pioneer Mrs Eleanor Coade.
