Wool, Hand-knotted, Green and Pink Art Nouveau Persian Rug, 10' x 14'
Located in New York, NY
Orley Shabahang’s Wool "Framed Garden" Persian carpet from the Art Nouveau Collection measures 10’ x 14’ and was created in Iran circa 2004. Its hand-knotted pure wool pile in lush hues of forest green and blush pink evokes the sensation of walking through a golden rose garden in bloom. Gold, red and blue tones accent the design and echo the traditional Persian Garden rugs of decades past. The versatile, all-over design showcases blooming rose and paisley motifs, detailed by rich green stalks and soft golden flower bulbs. The exterior border features budding roses in similar shades, oriented to serve as a walkway surrounding the flower garden. This warm and inviting design, combined with the highest quality raw materials, conveys the essence of the Persian Garden carpet...

19th Century Persian Kashan “Tree of Life” Area Rug in Ivory, Brick Red, Navy
Located in Barrington, IL
The 19th century Persian Kashan library rug with a Vase “Tree of Life” design with birds on branches elevating towards the heavens. The field is a very rare and desirable ivory color. The gorgeous border is in a rust red color with the birds design throughout the border. The rug is so finely woven and a very short pile and it feels like a fine textile than a hand-woven rug; It would be and would be great as a tapestry wall art or displayed on the floor. The Kashan “library” rug was woven in an artisan workshop in Kashan and is similar to the rugs from the workshop of master Mohtashem. Having a unique size and design in addition to the rare ivory color field and being woven in one of the best workshops make this truly a woven masterpiece to admire and enjoy. Dimensions: 4’ 10” x 8’ 6” Date of Manufacture: 4th Quarter of the 1800s Place of Origin: Persia Material: Wool pile on a cotton foundation Condition: Wear consistent with age and use Antique Persian Kashan, Antique Mohtashem Kashan, Antique Kashan Rugs, Kashan Tree of Life...

Ararat Rugs Dragon Rug, Antique Caucasus Museum Revival Carpet, Natural Dyed
Located in Tokyo, JP
There has long been a fascination with the symbolism of the dragon and its depiction in carpet weavings. The design of ‘Dragon’ carpets consists of a field pattern composed of different colored overlaid lattices formed of pointed, serrated leaves creating intersecting lozenges, which alternately contain palmettes and are flanked by confronting stylized dragons, birds, or animal figures. The most archaic of the ‘Dragon’ carpets include dragon motifs with birds and running animals relatively naturalistically drawn, which stand either alone or in confronting pairs facing a tree. The Graf carpet, originally found in a Damascene mosque, now in the Islamiches Museum, Berlin, is considered to be the oldest example of this type, see Serare Yetkin, Early Caucasian Carpets in Turkey, Vol. II, London, 1978, p.8, fig.118. Yetkin defines four types of ‘Dragon’ carpet: ‘Archaic’, ‘Four-Dragon’, ‘Dragon-and-Phoenix’ and as a further combined development of the latter, the ‘Two-Dragon’ style, of which the present carpet falls into the ‘Dragon-and-Phoenix group along with other examples, some of which include two fragments, one in the Museum fur Kunst und Gerwerbe, Hamburg; another in the Christian Museum, Esztergom, Hungary, a complete carpet in the Kier collection; an incomplete example in the Textile Museum, Washington, D.C; the ‘Cassirer’ Dragon carpet in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, Lugano; the Ali Pasa Mosque carpet in Tokat, and a further example in the Vakiflar Hali Museum, Istanbul (S. Yetkin, op. cit. pp.16-20). It has been suggested that the earliest examples of the Caucasian ‘Dragon’ carpets...
