This antique Turkish Oushak (Ushak) rug represents the very best of its type. 'Oushak' refers to rugs which use a particular family of designs, called after the city Usak - one of the larger towns in Western Anatolia, which was a major center of rug production from the early days of the ottoman empire. This carpet was made in the late 1890s to early 1900s, which make the carpet even more valuable as the late 17th Century saw a decline in the oriental rug, those that were made throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries were manufactured for upper-class people in the Turkish territories of Eastern Europe. It is was made with silky, luminous wool which was dyed in cinnamon, terracotta, greens and blue-gray.
