About

This antique Turkish Oushak (Ushak) rug represents the very best of its type. 'Oushak' refers to rugs which use a particular family of designs, called after the city Usak - one of the larger towns in Western Anatolia, which was a major center of rug production from the early days of the ottoman empire. The region sill remains a vibrant center of hand-made carpet weaving today.

This carpet was made in the late 1890s to early 1900s, which make the carpet even more valuable as the late 17th Century saw a decline in the oriental rug, those that were made throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries were manufactured for upper-class people in the Turkish territories of Eastern Europe.

It is was made with silky, luminous wool which was dyed in cinnamon, terracotta, greens and blue-gray.

The rug is in superb condition for its age, is very sturdy and serviceable and is a very rare find.
