The armchair has been restored and reupholstered by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process. More about the designer
Jindrich Halabala was born on May 24, 1903 in Korycany into the family of carpenter Štepán Halabala, whose craft he learned in a family business between 1918 and 1920. He then joined the State Czechoslovak Vocational School for Wood Processing in Valašské Mezirící, which he graduated from two years later. After school, he started practicing at the United UP races, where he met their founder Jan Vanek.
In 1922 he also began to study architecture at the School of Applied Arts in Prague, specializing in furniture and interiors with prof. Pavel Janák...

It is truly no surprise that this same chair is in the permanent collection at The Smithsonian American Art Museum. Meditate on the genius involved in crafting each chair from a single sheet of layered ply. Cutting and molding a single medium into functional art with a style so timeless, the revival exceeds the debut. Designed by Peter Danko in 1978 and produced by Thonet, all but one chair had their original factory tags underneath. The three tags were gently removed and bagged separately during our restoration. Exquisitely re-upholstered in red-orange weave fabric to harmoniously compliment the honey colored oak frames. Our restoration team spent countless hours touching up the frames. Although a few still remain, most chips and scratches were expertly mitigated before we applied a topcoat to match the original. We're certain these chairs will meet expectations.

These four ( 4 ) dining chairs or armchairs show beautiful turned details at the armrests and at the connections to the seat.
The surface is carefully cleaned and shellac polished by hand, so the amazing warmth and depth from beechwood is visible.
